Announcement Information:This is a Grant-Funded position.
General Summary:Under general supervision, the Public Health Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing services to women and their families eligible for maternal child health home visiting service. Nurse home visitors are responsible for maintaining the highest standards in clinical nursing practice related to maternal child health and adherence to current health practices, policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards. Nurse home visitors report to a Nursing Supervisor and work with a team of nurses and nutritionists.
Required Minimum Qualifications:At the time of applicant, applicants must:
1. Be licensed by the Michigan Board of Nursing to practice as a registered professional nurse in the State of Michigan.
2. Possess a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university.
NOTE: Applicants possessing transcripts from a college or university outside of the United States will be required to provide documentation of degree equivalency from a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (http://naces.org/members.html). The degree evaluation will be required for application processing.
3.Have had at least two (2) years of full-time increasingly responsible public health nursing work experience under professional nursing supervision.
NOTE: A Master's Degree in Nursing, Public Health, Public Administration or closely related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for one (1) year of the public health nursing experience.
4. Possess a valid United States motor vehicle operator’s or chauffeur’s license. Out of country driver’s license holders will be required to obtain the appropriate valid State of Michigan driver’s license before the hire date.
5. Pass the complete examination, including employment medical, established for this classification.
6. Successfully complete the six month probationary period.
NOTE: Applicants who are eligible to be licensed by the State of Michigan and who meet the other requirements listed above may take this examination but will not be eligible for appointment until they have been licensed by or possess a valid permit from the Michigan Board of Nursing.
Volunteer experience may be accepted provided it is equivalent in level and scope to the required experience.
Special Requirements:1. Must maintain a valid United States motor vehicle operator's or chauffeur's license.
2. Must submit to immunizations as required by the Health Division and to periodic tuberculin skin tests or chest X-rays at County expense.
3. Must maintain registration with the State of Michigan Board of Nursing.
