About this Position:
Prototype Purchasing Senior Specialist works independently carrying out a wide range of complex duties with purchasing and technical teams. Propose and influence new business process designs or process design changes for conformance to existing standards and strategies. Leads PSP procurement functions, including leading tool/part cost negotiation/evaluation, cost reduction research, assigned parts/child parts procurement, supplier cost/quality/delivery management and parts procurement delivery/administration. Acts as lead liaison to suppliers and project design teams.
Responsibilities include:
- Propose business processes and confirm changes for enhancement and conformance to PSP prototype purchasing business needs. Work closely with system development teams to specify, negotiate, and confirm system changes. Identify key stakeholders and include in development and confirmation.
- Issues Purchase Orders (POs) for all projects unassisted. Authorize appropriate supplier selection for existing & new parts, required parts/lead times per drawing issue schedule/delivery dates, and specifications/procurement needs are met. Initiate collaborative efforts with suppliers to obtain Request for Quotes (RFQs) to establish target costs prior to project builds, analysing supplier quotes and negotiating costs for all projects. Coordinates parts procurement administration, including tracking open parts requests/orders/changes, generating Open Order Report
- Advanced knowledge of parts/child parts in assigned area of specialty, drawing specifications/release timing and supplier prototype tooling methods to procure prototype parts/child parts for development/testing activities, including evaluating tools/prototype parts cost/quality and managing lead time to ensure costs within budget, delivery, quality, quantity, and build schedule/testing deadlines.
- Create strategies with suppliers and internal design teams for part/assembly procurement, conducts pre-project build meetings to observe/review supplier-tooling methods for quality and cost assessments, monitors supplier quality/delivery and relays changes in quantity, quality standards and/or deadlines, addresses quality issues and recommends countermeasures, negotiates with suppliers to ensure quality standards are met and coordinates shipment/delivery with minimal supervision
Minimum Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree or related equivalent experience
Minimum Experience:
- 8 years’ minimum experience, preferably in Power Sports or Automotive Prototype Procurement
Other job-specific skills:
- Strong understanding of material costs, labor rates and prototype manufacturing methods
- Advanced SAP knowledge and experience in system implementation from business perspective
- Solid ability to learn, understand and apply new technologies
- Competent investigative, judgment, decision-making and problem-solving skills
- Competent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills
- Competent diplomacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills
- Competent analytical, organizational, multi-tasking and detail-oriented skills
- Ability to read and interpret drawings
- Competent working knowledge of Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Must be able to possess a high level of confidentiality
Additional Position Factors:
- Travel: Up to 5% may be required. Average of 1-4 times annually. Amount varies based on project demands/responsibilities, conferences, etc.; includes possible overseas travel.
- Physical: Primarily at a desk, moderate keyboarding. Limited kneeling, standing, reaching, squatting, bending, pushing and lifting.
- Hazards: Risks found in a typical office setting. May be exposed to explosives/flammables, pressurized equipment, toxic chemicals and moving parts.
- Overtime: Overtime expected based on project demands/responsibilities.
