The Opportunity
Econometrica is looking for an experienced full-time or part-time Python Programmer to support data analysis for various Federal agencies. The candidate will be involved in cleaning, summarizing, and prepping data for advanced analytics and machine learning algorithms.
Tasks may include the following:
- Aggregating, merging (horizontal and vertical), partitioning, and reshaping datasets.
- Performing descriptive statistics to summarize datasets and investigating anomalous results.
- Manually reviewing, classifying, and annotating example records to form training datasets for machine learning.
- Using string methods and regular expressions to clean unstructured text fields.
- Documenting your work with comments in the code and with plain language explanations, process diagrams, etc., in reports delivered to nontechnical audiences.
Education and Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience:
- 2–3 years of experience using Python for data analysis.
- Solid understanding of the basic Python data types.
- Proficiency with Pandas.
- Basic knowledge of machine learning methods.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team setting and to develop effective relationships with clients, consultants, and contractors.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to obtain a security clearance.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- Experience prepping DataFrames for SKLearn models.
- Experience using Python’s regular expressions module to search and modify text.
- Interest in learning about advanced statistical and machine learning techniques.
- Experience with parallel programming.
- Experience with code review and documentation
- Experience working on projects in a consulting environment.
Additional requirements of the position could involve occasional travel relevant to the responsibilities noted above.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field.

Work Environment
This position is remote, though candidates may choose to work in Econometrica’s office.
The office is located at a Metro stop in beautiful downtown Bethesda, MD, within walking distance of great restaurants and local fare. We have a typical office setting with a quiet to moderate noise level.
