Job Description:
Position Purpose and Objectives
The QC Technician is responsible for the conducting organoleptic testing, analytical testing, and manufacturing documentation review of finished products. He/she is responsible for assisting the manufacturing department in correcting out of specification blends. This person also collects bulk samples for submission to the customer, or formulator, where applicable, scans and files related documentation and issues QC releases on products that meet specification. The technician is also responsible for analytical and microbial monitoring of the inbound water treatment system at all points. This position may have various additional functions in the QC labs as deemed necessary by the QC Supervisor.
Essential Job Functions
- Testing of incoming bulk blends for analytical and organoleptic characteristics.
- Review manufacturing paperwork and batch records for accuracy and completeness.
- Scan and file manufacturing and packaging documentation.
- Evaluate incoming raw materials for compliance to analytical and organoleptic specifications.
- Calibrate and maintain all lab equipment.
- Collect sterile samples from water system at the designated monitoring points.
- Plate, incubate, and read water system samples for microbial contaminant monitoring.
- Conduct analysis on treated water for chlorine, heavy metals, softness, etc.
- Retain raw materials, bulk, and finished product samples, and manage retain disposal.
- Package and ship samples to customers and affiliates upon request.
- Maintain lab equipment and facilities for cleanliness and functionality.
- Assist the Quality Manager, QC Supervisor, RM Technician, and Microbiologist with various functions as needed or required.
- Monitor temperatures at designated control points throughout the facility including the cooler and incubators.
- Inspect manufacturing equipment for cleanliness and verify cleanliness and rinse efficacy via swab testing with a lunimeter.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Knowledge of Excel, Word, and Adobe software.
- Knowledge of HPLC and IR wet chemistry.
- Knowledge of sterile sample technique.
- Knowledge of sterile plating techniques and water quality testing techniques.
- Organoleptic evaluation skills.
Supervisory Responsibility
- None.
Working Conditions
- Micro, Analytical, and Chemistry labs, as well as packaging and manufacturing areas.
Minimum Qualifications
- 4 Year Scientific Degree in Chemistry or an equivalent in field experience.
- Experience in working the Quality Control Lab in the food, beverage, or pharmaceutical field.
