Summary: This position is responsible to perform quality assurance functions, including sample collection, analysis and interpretation of results pertinent to in-process and finished goods. Such analysis applies to Potassium Sulfate products. Performs function in a safe, accurate and efficient manner. Is also responsible for the inspection, cleaning and general care of assigned area and associated testing equipment. This position involves 12 hour rotating shifts for both day and night coverage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: (Management reserves the right to add or modify the duties and responsibilities at any time.)
Frequent (hourly) sample collection from tanks, pipes, belts and other locations in a heavy industrial setting where personal protective equipment including metatarsal guard steel-toe boots, gloves and hard hats, must be worn. Sample collection areas are often hot, humid and/or exposed to the weather.
Routine testing and analysis of in-process minerals containing magnesium and potassium. Other analytical tests include chloride, sulfates, and sodium.
Sorts all samples by product and status i.e. in process or finished goods.
Conducts a variety of tests to determine chemical composition, including K2O, Na, Cl, SO4, Mg and NH4 content specific to given sample(s). Also assesses color, solubility, particle size, friability, dust and H2O relative to established quality standards.
Works with plant operators to adjust chemical and speed rates for desired product makeup
Performs mathematical computations associated with sample assessments. Mixes chemicals to create proper reagents.
Documents all results and makes computer entries as required. Performs calibrations and minor repairs to testing equipment.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: A Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or related Science is desirable, but not required. Previous work as a laboratory technician is desired. Hands on experience using analytical equipment and performing hand titrations will be considered in place of formal training. Previous work in a dynamic, fast-passed process support setting is desired. Also desired is three or more years of related experience, demonstrating the ability to function as a member of a team in multi-functional operation.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be PC proficient and possess the ability to quickly enter information into Excel. Must be able to navigate probe system and reconcile inventory issues.
