The Greenville (GREE) Quality Department is committed to providing high quality products and service that meet our customer’s expectations. The Quality Inspector is involved with the assurance of product quality through testing and verification of the production processes. This position is responsible for compliance with applicable standards as well as customer requirements. This would involve collaboration, brainstorming, and problem-solving skills. The Quality Inspector is also expected to ensure other employees are trained to understand quality and safety requirements as well as helping create solutions as part of a team.
- Follow all Company policies as outlined in Handbook
- Follow all Berry GMPs, Safety Absolutes and Safe Working Policies
- Follow all safety and food safety policies
- Train employees in quality requirements as required. Provide constructive and timely performance evaluations of this training
- Supervise any assigned team as required (e.g. repack, quality investigation, SQF, etc.)
- Provide leadership in promoting a Quality Culture
- Adhere to guidelines for Stop Work; Workplace Observations; and Zero Pellet Loss programs
- Understand blade safety as it related to utility knife, j-knife and slitter blades
- Complete essential job tasks in accordance with applicable Risk Assessments
- Know the location and function of the safety emergency stop buttons/cords
- Follow all Berry GMP, Food Safety, Food Security, Safety Absolutes, and Safe Working policies
- Prepare for and participate as needed in audits including SQF, ISO, customer, etc.
- Champion highest possible quality of goods in accordance with Greenville Quality Procedure and Quality Absolutes
- Read tape measure accurately down to 1/16” and 1 mm
- Read a Traveler and understand it’s components
- Perform necessary quality checks unassisted (camber, weight, gauge, size)
- Correctly read and use a micrometer
- Perform blender check and follow recipe book
- Operate all lab equipment in order to perform physical properties testing and file electronically
- Ensure that all equipment is calibrated before use
- Must be able to reference and follow all National Testing Standards (ASTM, etc.)
- Ability to train new Quality Inspectors on all responsibilities including checking order set ups and the use of lab equipment
- Navigate and utilize company provided software (CPro, myDevelopment, Office 365, Self Service, JDE, MS Office, Minitab, etc.)
- Review quality system requirements and be aware of department metrics
- Educate production team on quality control issues and work with departmental managers to improve overall company safety and product quality
- Report any quality defects to the responsible production personnel
- Investigate quality problems and help with determining Root Cause/Corrective Action
- Has authority to put a “hold” on any product found to be out of specification and can follow the hold procedure
- If licensed (training given by Berry Global), operate forklift to transport material to and from warehouse and hold area
- Assist in collecting and filing all retains
- Perform necessary housekeeping duties to support 6S and SQF standards
- Verify AQL Holds
- Performs other duties as assigned
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent training desired
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment
- Possess and develop teamwork skills (Communication, Responsibility, Honesty, Active Listening, Empathy, Collaboration, Awareness, etc.)
- Possess positive attitude and ability to offer constructive solutions to performance obstacles
- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work activities and handle multiple projects simultaneously

- Understand and utilize Quality Tools, SPC, etc.
- Endeavor to achieve and maintain a QA certification (e.g. ASQ CQIA)
- Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Able to become proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Able to follow general laboratory techniques
- Attention to detail and able to focus
- Able to acquire Forklift licensing (training given by Berry Global)
- Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Office and Office 365
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking for up to 12 hrs.
- Able to bend down and reach overhead
- Exposure to high heat for periods of time.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
