Job Purpose:
The Quality Control Specialist will oversee the quality assurance processes within the forklift service department. This role involves inspecting, testing, and evaluating repaired and maintained forklifts to ensure they meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance. The specialist will work closely with service technicians and management to identify and resolve quality issues, ensuring customer satisfaction and compliance with industry regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Inspection and Testing
- Conduct detailed inspections of serviced forklifts and components to ensure they meet quality and safety standards.
- Perform functional and performance tests on repaired forklifts.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to verify proper operation and identify any issues.
Quality Assurance
- Develop and implement quality control procedures and checklists for the service department.
- Monitor service processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and protocols.
- Identify and document defects, non-conformities, and areas needing improvement, and recommend corrective actions.
Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and service activities.
- Prepare detailed reports on quality issues, findings, and recommendations for service improvements.
- Collaborate with service technicians to address and resolve quality concerns.
Compliance and Standards
- Ensure serviced forklifts comply with relevant safety regulations and industry standards.
- Stay updated with the latest developments in quality control methodologies and industry regulations.
- Conduct regular audits to ensure ongoing compliance with quality management systems and service standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in root cause analysis and problem-solving activities related to service quality.
- Provide feedback and training to service staff on quality standards and best practices.
- Recommend and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance service quality and efficiency.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Through proper supervision, maintain the cleanliness of the grounds, service shop, steam room, break room.
- Plan and follow up with parts orders to ensure that repair jobs are not waiting on parts.
- Assist with technical support.
- Assist the Service and Parts Departments with shipping and receiving, transportation and storage.
- All other duties as assigned by management.
Qualification Requirements:
- High school diploma or the equivalent.
- Working knowledge of how a service department operates is a must.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in the materials handling industry or related fields, such as service roles involving forklifts, construction, or automotive.
Qualification Requirements (continued):
- Must demonstrate a high degree of communication and organizational skills to include the ability to apply logic and constructive thinking to solve problems.
- Experience in training adults in the use of diagnostic equipment.
- Provide effective oral and written communications to customers, management and vendors.
- Must be able to perform mathematical calculations, including decimals and percentages.
- Must have above average computer skills with proficiency in basic office software, e-mail, spreadsheets and billing software, also must possess a thorough knowledge of general business procedures. These may be acquired via secondary education or additional college level courses, trade school training, or previous employment experience relevant to the position.
- Knowledge of project management principles and practices.
- Ability to train adults to use and understand various diagnostic tools; such as, digital multi-meter, handsets, laptop computer software, etc.
- Information technology skills.
- Must be able to push, pull, lift or move up to 25 lbs.
