Job Summary:
Under supervision, the QA Technician I will perform quality control testing and assist with the implementation of the Pel-Freez quality management system in accordance with ISO 9001. The role will be required to understand and promote the Quality System as part of the Company's overall goal toward continual improvement through strict adherence to all company policies, procedures, principals, and values.

Duties/Responsibilities:
- Supply and Material Procurement:
- Conduct routine supply checks and RQ placement.
- Inspect incoming materials.
- Assist the Supervisor with quality system (QS) supply material qualifications.
- Standard Quality Control Testing:
- Perform routine quality control (QC) testing per standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Manage lab rotations, including drafting the weekly testing schedule.
- Maintain the lab's cleanliness and organization, including retention storage.
- Troubleshoot equipment and test methods during lab rotation.
- Initiate non-conforming and deviation reports.
- Equipment:
- Respond to equipment failures as needed.
- Assist with routine equipment calibrations and necessary send-outs.
- Technical:
- Develop testing protocols based on written instructions.
- Assist the Bio QS Lab Supervisor with investigative work through data collection.
- Perform routine testing per SOPs to support data collection for test method change qualifications and stability studies.
- Change Initiatives:
- Review and revise standard operating procedures.
- Initiate minor procedural changes within QS and Production.
- Quality Systems Management:
- Support quality management system operations, including training and mentoring staff on quality-related processes.
- Participate in internal audits, investigate customer complaints, and manage corrective and preventative action (CAPA).
- Respond to customer requests for information, such as certificates of analysis (COAs) and supplier evaluations.
- Records Reviews and Approvals:
- Perform solution and in-process reviews as needed.
- External Testing Coordination:
- Send samples to external suppliers according to procedure.
- Professional Development:
- Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and maintaining personal networks.
- Quality System Promotion:
- Understand and promote the quality system to support the company's goal of continual improvement.
- Comply with Pel-Freez, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), ISO, Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies and procedures, food safety standards, general safety, animal welfare, quality, and good manufacturing practices.
- Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Based on the essential duties listed above, this position is considered safety-sensitive and therefore all work must be performed following quality standards and established safety procedures.
- Supply and Material Procurement:
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and supply chain management.
- In-depth understanding of quality control, assurance, and management principles.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as ISO 9001, good manufacturing principles (GMP), and other relevant guidelines.
- Knowledge and understanding of safety procedures and industry regulations and guidelines required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).
- Proficient understanding of quality testing methods/procedures and documentation practices for quality management systems.
- Familiarity with biological production is preferred.
- Intermediate experience in utilizing Microsoft Office Suite.
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in testing and reporting.
- Skilled in using laboratory equipment, software, and other technical tools related to quality testing and control.
- An individual displays reliability and responsibility, has an excellent attendance record, and regularly fulfills work obligations.
- The ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, area and volume, fractions, ratios, and proportions, and apply statistical analysis.
Education and Experience:
- A high school diploma, or equivalent GED and laboratory experience is required.
- A bachelor's degree in science and laboratory experience is preferred.
- Experience with quality principles and the interpretation and application of quality standards of industry regulations (e.g., ISO 9001) is preferred.
