The Sanmina Fremont facility is a full-service enclosure systems solution manufacturing plant. Located in California’s Silicon Valley, this facility produces low-to-mid volume New Product Introduction (NPI) runs to full-scale volume. The Fremont facility offers everything from small piece parts to fully integrated and tested systems. Supporting diverse technology sectors including semiconductor, telecommunications, and medical equipment, the Fremont facility offers a wide array of services including sheet metal fabrication, welding, painting and clean room assembly.
Job Purpose:
Sanmina is looking for a knowledgeable and ambitious person to fill a Quality Engineer position. In this role, you will ensure operational excellence and drive quality improvement in advanced machining operations for our high technology customers. The ideal candidate will be a strong technical resource, able to dive into the manufacturing process to develop permanent solutions to quality problems, both in-house and at suppliers. The quality engineer will be responsible for maintaining the Quality Management System and will be a primary contact for customer quality concerns.
Nature of Duties:
- Lead corrective action teams and utilize quality tools, including 8D, in response to quality issues, including customer concerns.
- Develop, analyze and verify effectiveness of process controls by teaming with engineering to review customer specifications and drawings. Review and update Quality control plans and quality checklists.
- Design, document and implement methods and procedures for inspection and test
- Improving plant quality performance, and customer satisfaction through process improvement techniques such as SPC, FMEA, DOE, Lean manufacturing etc.
- Develop and maintain quality standards for processing materials into partially finished or finished products
- Support nonconformance documentation and MRB disposition process, including analysis of customer complaints
- Interface with customers on critical issues as needed.
- Conduct and report on internal audits
- Participate in engineering CCB’s and assist in the development and refinement of PFMEAs.
- Provide training and mentoring to team members in the development of quality improvement skills and the application of various quality tools.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Qualifications:

- BS degree or higher in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering or similar field
- Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in quality engineering or related area in a manufacturing environment
- Experience with reading and interpreting GD&T requirements required
- Excellent written and oral communications
- Ability to interface with customers
- Ability to perform and document customer required source inspections.
- Strong technical backplane assembly process and engineering experience, including; assembly drawing and component data sheet interpretation, first article inspection, product and process qualification and planning, new product introduction planning and execution, process risk and opportunity analysis.
- Extensive engineering and manufacturing experience.
- Experience with AS 9100 first articles
- Experience performing and documenting failure mode analysis (FMEA)
- Experience with Agile and Oracle
- Experience with Acrobat, Microsoft and Google software
- Strong understanding of industry quality standards, e.g. ISO 9001, AS 9100, TL 9000, NADCAP
- Ability to work independently, with little direction.

Salary Range (annual): $75000 - $90000
