Quality Engineer
Role Overview
The Quality Engineer position oversees and provides support to the internal manufacturing and support processes of the site. This position will ensure that our internal processes meet or exceed our expectations for quality products. They will focus on process capability, inspection, defect reduction and ongoing improvements to first-pass yield. In addition, this position will support the overall function of the QA department and the site Quality Management System (QMS).
Key Responsibilities
▪ Oversee the site measuring equipment (gage) calibration process, including performing some in-house activities as well as managing the process with external suppliers, ensuring that all equipment is calibrated while in use.
▪ Implement and maintain a site metrology guideline that identifies the specific item to use for each measurement required in the inspection plan. This includes CMM, Keyence, profilometers, and all measuring devices used.
▪ Responsible for creating, maintaining, and ensuring proper compliance for all inspection plans (including first article) related to assigned areas and responsibilities. This includes the completion and deployment of machine capability studies and ongoing SPC and SPC-type programs. Incorporate SPC, skip-lotting and other contemporary practices to minimize workload while maximizing QA yields.
▪ Perform data collection and analysis, and determination of compliance, for manufacturing parts. Also required for finished product, during the shipping process (including certifications of compliance).
▪ This position is the QA dept representative for the Line Escalation process on-site for manufactured parts issues. Responsible for completing or overseeing completion of all NCMs, CAPAs, deviations, root cause analysis activities and other QA related activities that are generated from manufacturing. Champions the 8D process for manufacturing parts issues.
▪ Complete the Quality department’s activities required for completing Change Requests for manufactured parts.
▪ Actively engage in the FFQS assessment process. Understand the assessment questions and ensure that questions pertaining to manufacturing are being addressed.
▪ Key member of team that creates/modifies PFMEAs and Process Control Plans. Responsible for leading the team for creating/updating/deploying Process Control Plans.
▪ Material Review Board member for manufactured parts.
▪ Conduct, support, or participate in audits as required for compliance or performance.
▪ Participate in design reviews as required.
▪ Ensures that the procedures, work instructions, forms and other instructions that are either their direct responsibility or have a QA impact within their assigned areas and responsibilities are accurate, up-to-date and followed properly.
▪ Communicate and train manufacturing employees on all aspects of QA expectations, procedures, work instructions, initiatives, audits and assessments and other topics to improve the overall QA awareness in manufacturing.
▪ Maintain documentation for assigned responsibilities so that it is accurate, up-to-date and in compliance with the QMS system.
▪ Perform back-up duties to other department members as necessary.
▪ Other duties as assigned.
Critical Competencies for Success
Education and Experience
▪ Bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) from an accredited college or university in related field of study preferred.
▪ Five years’ experience in Quality Engineering, or Engineering required.
▪ Excellent verbal and written skills required
▪ Understanding of ISO, GMP, and/or military quality systems required.
Computers and Technology
▪ Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products
▪ Various quality engineering software products
Certifications/Licenses
▪ ASQC certification preferred (i.e., CQA, CQE, etc.)
