In the area of turbo-machinery, Calspan’s team continues a 20-year tradition of setting industry standards for quality with the design and manufacture of turbo-machinery test articles and equipment. We are looking for a Quality Engineer to be responsible for driving the development and implementation of effective quality procedures, inspections, and corrective actions to maintain Calspan’s quality standards within every product delivered.

Responsibilities:Core Responsibilities Listed Below – Compensation and position level commensurate with education and experience.
- Collect organize, and evaluate supplier related quality documents to verify accuracy and due diligence from all involved parties. Ensure Calspan’s expected quality standards and tolerances are maintained throughout all products. Coordinate continuous improvements to quality procedures based on findings and shortcomings from suppliers.
- Direct the product deviation and non-conformance process by tracking, organizing, and managing the responses to supplier shortcomings in accordance with producing to released drawings and design intent. Work with lead engineers from cross functional teams to formulate resolutions to complex non-conformances.
- Oversee Supplier quality. Lead periodic site inspections with subcontractors and fabricators actively building Calspan equipment to ensure Calspan quality standards are upheld at every stage of the fabrication process. Identify and drive continuous improvement efforts with fabricators who are under-performing or releasing non-conformances. Attend site visits to new machine shops and update evaluation methods. Improve the supplier selection process and further refine expectations to ensure that only the highest performing suppliers are considered to fabricate Calspan components.
- Enhance the efficacy of validation activities. Work with lead engineers and the inspection team to define validation activities, engage in testing plans, and implement improvements. Define testing plans based on procedures and requirements. Lead the implementation of processes and tools to further enhance testing capabilities.
- Support quality practices throughout Calspan. Engage in cross functional teams to aid the quality group with audits, corrective action plans, supplier performance issues, internal corrective action plans, and specification improvements. Work collaboratively with the Calspan assembly team to identify common improvements and propose red-lines to the engineering team to drive improvements on future or current designs. Implement training of QMS processes to drive quality engagement at all levels.
Preferred Education / Experience:
- Bachelors Degree in related discipline
- 5+ years of experience
- A combination of education and experience equivalent to above
- Position requires applicant to conform to U.S. export control regulations, applicant should be eligible for any required authorizations from the U.S. Government.
Preferred Knowledge / Ability:
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, including presentation skills
- Ability to lead and mentor fellow employees
- Working knowledge of CAD/CAM or other current engineering software programs
- Working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio and PowerPoint
- AS9100 knowledge/experience preferred
- Comfortable working independently
