About the Job
The General Mills Buffalo Plant manufactures both Flour and Cereal products for General Mills’ North America Retail and North America Food Service segments. Our flour products are targeted to a wide variety of customers within our North America Food Service division. Our cereal products include a variety of sizes and configurations of Cheerios, Lucky Charms, and Chex. Operating since 1903, the Buffalo plant has a long history in downtown Buffalo, making the city smell like Cheerios since 1941. Today, the plant is on a journey driving towards Destination Zero by focusing on Zero Loss principles as well as building a Buffalo Forever culture.
The Quality Lab Assistant (QLA) role is designed to provide individuals with an opportunity to learn about food safety and quality at a General Mills facility, learn more about the Lab Technician and Quality Engineer roles, and bring new ideas and continuous improvement strategies to the plant. The QLA position will be on day shift (approximately 7:00am-3:00pm) but may be asked to work weekends and different shifts.
Duration
This is a temporary role and will last 3 months in length, generally over the summer.
Compensation
$24/hr
Key Accountabilities
The QLA will have exposure to assignments in food safety, quality and sanitation, such as:
- Planning and executing assigned projects
- Learning the lab technician role and responsibilities
- Partnering cross-functionally with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance or Logistics departments as needed to complete assignments
- Learning the production process and developing relationships with the production team
- Leading capability studies
- Shadowing Quality Engineers to learn and perform daily activities
Minimum Qualifications
- Leadership experience in school, work, or extracurricular activities
- Open to work alternative shifts (2nd shift or 3rd shift) to support the 24-7 operations of the plant
Preferred Qualifications
- Working toward a BS/BA in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial/Quality Engineering, Food Science or Chemistry
- Students with a sophomore or junior year class status
- GPA 3.0 or above

- At the completion of this program, a formal evaluation of performance and contributions will be reviewed with employee for growth and experience.
