Position Summary:
The Chemist II in the Steel Cold Rolling Lab shall execute development assignments, determinations and tests under the supervision of the manager/group leader. The Chemist shall contribute to the development or improvement of steel rolling lubricant products in support of the Metals strategic plan. Additional duties include supporting Quaker Houghton cold rolling fluids in use at customer accounts with analysis and troubleshooting.
What will you do?
Develop and improve chemical products used in a variety of manufacturing and mechanical systems in order to enhance processes, safety and quality in order to meet customer needs and provide solutions to application problems.
Independently carry out tests and determinations, in order to answer questions and address problems of customers. Work on a product development project assigned by the manager.
Execute analytical tests in order to determine quantitative and qualitative composition of raw materials, formulations, competitive products and other chemical (field) samples.
Under guidance report results by reports and presentations in a clear and concise manner to enhance technical exchange.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to carefully, and precisely manipulate samples, apparatus, and sensitive instruments. The employee is frequently required to stand and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to walk sit and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
There are no managerial responsibilities for this position but may occasionally train and guide more junior level chemists and trainees in the Development Laboratory.

Required Education and Experience:
At least 3+ years related chemistry experience required. A combination of education (Bachelor’s or Masters) and experience will be considered.
This position requires a degree Bachelor’s or Masters in a scientific discipline, preferably Chemistry.
Knowledge of colloid chemistry, surfactants, and tribology is required.
Experience with the formulation of lubricant fluids and field support is highly desired.
Must have the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment, to work on different projects at the same time, and to think analytically.
