Summary:
The R&D Engineer I will own a wide range of product development and test engineering scope supporting our contracted and internally funded programs. In this role, you will work with other team members to execute complex programs from concept through development, qualification and production. You will apply creative technical solutions through a high-level degree of engineering skills and principles including mechanical design, structural analysis, fluid dynamics, and thermodynamics. Work will include the verification of product design through extensive component and system level test campaigns. You will be responsible for creating detailed test programs and defining hardware requirements to execute the planned activities. You will work with both internal and customer integrated product teams to plan, coordinate and execute test campaigns that will be conducted at GD-OTS and external facilities.
Major Position Responsibilities
Conducts research, design, and development activities with the goal of developing new or improved products, processes, or services.
Collaborates with internal manufacturing partners, contract manufacturers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for manufacturability.
Applies research theories, principles, and models when conducting experiments and research activities.
Conducts market research, tracks projects, builds spreadsheets evaluating trade space, designs presentation slides, and executes business-oriented tasks.
Summarizes research results and communicates findings to internal and external bodies.
Assesses the scope of research projects and ensures projects are on time and within budget.
Develops technical documentation for all projects.
Utilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
Basic Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
Associate's Degree and 0-3 years experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical or Electrical Engineering
Working understanding of basic engineering principles, theories, and concepts, including thermal and structural engineering
Performs routine assignments using existing procedures
Ability to analyze test data and verify compliance against system requirements
Ability to work with other functional teams in the accomplishment of hardware development, fabrication, assembly and test
Previous working knowledge of Creo, Windchill and Jira
Ability to translate general customer requirements into products, specific requirements and program elements
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Strong computer skills, administrative data control, scheduling and team interface
Must be able to posse
