Radar-Image Processing Engineer-Technical Staff - MIT Lincoln Laboratory
Lexington, MA
About the Job
MIT Lincoln Laboratory is seeking a talented individual to join our dynamic team as a Radar and Image Signal Processing Engineer. You will play a pivotal role in creating, refining, and implementing advanced processing, detection, estimation, and tracking algorithms that fill real world needs. We're particularly interested in candidates with a background in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, who bring a strong foundation in signal processing techniques.
As a member of the Airborne Radar Systems and Techniques group at MIT Lincoln Laboratory, you will work on high-performance sensor systems as part of a team with diverse technical backgrounds. We prototype radar and imaging sensors for wide-area surveillance, and work to mature algorithms to detect small objects in challenging environments. Staff have the opportunity to work on hardware, software, and novel algorithm development. Teams work together to understand foundational physical principles, design and build one-of-a-kind sensor systems, architect and execute flight test data collections, develop and integrate novel processing techniques, explore advanced countermeasures that degrade the performance of sensor systems, and partner across the Department of Defense to transition our work onto platforms that operate around the globe preforming relevant missions.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and assess state-of-the-art algorithms for radar and image signal processing
- Analyze and interpret complex data sets to extract meaningful insights and enhance system performance
- Participate in the design, simulation, and testing of signal processing algorithms
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in radar and image processing technologies
- Partner with cross-functional teams to optimize signal processing techniques for real-time applications
- Team up with hardware engineers to set system requirements, predict system performance, and ensure smooth integration and compatibility between processing algorithms, data types, and prototype hardware
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design and execute experiments that include both ground-based and airborne sensors
- Prepare technical documentation, including test plans, interface control documents, reports, and presentations, as well as technical presentations outlining project details and status
- Share new ideas and intuitions with your colleagues, collaborators and others in our technical communities through mentorship, education, and outreach opportunities
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field with a focus on signal and/or image processing or computer vision. In lieu of a PhD, we will consider applicants with a Master’s degree that have 5 years of relevant work experience
- Strong foundation in digital signal processing theory and algorithms
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, MATLAB, or C/C++
- Solid understanding of statistical signal processing techniques
- Experience with radar systems, remote sensing, or image processing applications, their components, and associated challenges is highly desirable but not required
- Familiarity with RF hardware (amplifiers, antennas, filters) and digital processing and control systems (FPGAs, GPUs, CPUs) is also highly desirable
- Willingness to travel occasionally to participate in (or lead) offsite field tests, data collection campaigns, exercises, and meetings
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and within a team
- Strong communication skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts
Join us in a stimulating and supportive environment where your insights will contribute to real progress in signal and image processing. We highly value diversity and strongly encourage applications from all backgrounds. If you’ve got a passion for reshaping the possibilities of sensing technologies, we eagerly await your application!
