POSITION SUMMARY:
Performs or assists in radiographic procedures at a level that does not require direct supervision over technical detail. Performs and assists in a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, good knowledge of anatomy, positioning and a thorough technical knowledge of equipment. Performs registration of patients chooses the correct Medical Record and obtains accurate demographic and financial data. Establishes patient account for the purpose of producing a timely and accurate bill and an accurate medical record. Verifies insurance, and refers self-pay patients to the Financial Counselor. Identifies and collects time of service dollars.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must pass the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) National Board, and have a State of Connecticut License to practice Radiographic technical procedures.
- On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain the mandatory number of continued educational units (CEU’s) needed to maintain the currency of state licensure.
- Must have certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support upon hire and maintain clinical competency during employment with ECHN in this role
EXPERIENCE:
- Must have a complete working knowledge in the principals of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique and radiation protection as it relates to Radiology practice.
- Experience working with and caring for all age groups of patients, and complete knowledge of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique and universal safety protection as it relates to Radiology practice is necessary.
COMPETENCIES:
- Must have the ability to speak, read and write using the English language.
- Bilingual capabilities in Spanish are desirable, but not required.
- Should have a basic familiarity with the use of personal computers and keyboards, some basic skill in Microsoft Word and Outlook is desirable but not required..
- The incumbent must meet the ECHN age specific knowledge/skill requirements and complete all ECHN assigned training and development in the time frames prescribed by the organization
- Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills
- Strong ability to multi-task in a high volume work environment

1. Performs all routine radiographic procedures according to department standards, protocols and guidelines required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists and the State of Connecticut
2. Exhibits proficiency in conducting routine radiographic procedures
3. Provides proper clinical patient care while performing diagnostic procedures.
4. Provides careful critique and assessment over the image quality.
5. Exhibits accuracy in computer documentation.
6. Maintains stock levels and personal protection equipment of assigned stations.
7. Exhibits constant awareness of infection control standards.

9. Performs miscellaneous duties as may be required.
10. Accurately establishes patient account in a timely fashion, eliminating duplication of medical record numbers by linking the correct patient and Unit number.
11. Completes demographic and financial information accurately in conjunction with Patient Access Department expectations while accurately determining the appropriate flow type in the Admissions registration system.
12. Obtains signature on authorization form for all types of registrations including Observations and Inpatients and explains all components of the form to the person signing.
13. Completes registration process by producing registration form, admission plate and bracelet for registrant based on registration type.
14. Completes registration by assigning the correct physician(s), admit source and admit priority, as well as HIPAA specific information as evaluated through the auditing process.
15. Operates department specific equipment such as fax, copier, printer, and credit/debit machine.
16. Accurately performs the discharge function by entering an accurate diagnosis, disposition, referring out physician, discharge time, including time seen by triage, time placed in room, and time see by physician.
17. Reports discrepancies and/or issues immediately to the Manager of Patient Access such as accumulative missing records as evidenced by the weekly suspend report and works collaboratively with the Vendor, HIM, ED/PC physicians and nursing to resolve.
