What you'll be challenged to do:
TranSystems is seeking a motivated civil/track engineer to join our Schaumburg Rail Team. Together, our team works on projects that are unique, important, challenging, and constructed. Every member of our team is fully engaged in the design of our projects.
The successful candidate will be capable of serving as project engineer for a diverse project portfolio comprised of freight, transit, and industry projects. The ideal candidate will be proactive, creative, and possess the ability to independently and collaboratively solve engineering design issues. The ideal candidate will also be able to coordinate with clients directly and aid in directing more junior engineers. An interest in project management is strongly preferred.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Prepare and review design reports, drawings, specifications, & cost estimates.
- The initiative to research client standards & requirements; explore multiple design options, code requirements and then present findings.
- Demonstrate strong client relations.
- Lead and mentor staff level engineers in the performance of project tasks.
- Communicate with, and attend meetings with: clients, subconsultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Participate in business development activities including information gathering, conceptual design, and proposal writing.
- Responsible for accuracy of engineering design and plans, quality presentation, thoroughness and follow-through, and conformance to budgets, schedules, and company standards.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
Qualifications:
What you bring to our firm:
- Bachelors of Science in Civil Engineering from a 4-yr accredited college or university.
- 5-10 years of experience with the design of transit / freight rail engineering projects.
- PE License, or the ability to get one within 6 months of joining.
- Working knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.).
- Experience with engineering design packages such as MicroStation V8i, Geopak SS2, & OpenRoads. Knowledge with OpenRoads Designer is a plus.
- Actively engages multiple perspectives when solving problems, seeks to learn from peers, and encourages reciprocal learning among team members.

What we’d prefer for you to bring to our firm:
- Experience working with freight railroads.
- Experience working with transit agencies.
Work Environment:
- This opening is for a position on the rail team located in the Schaumburg, Illinois office.
- Coming into the office a minimum of 2 days a week is preferred. However, remote working options, including fully-remote options for candidates outside of driving distance to the office, will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
