Job Summary:
The Water & Sewer Department is seeing a Raw Water Operations Technician to join a high performing and dedicated team as part of the non-potable water division. The Raw Water Operations Technician will report to the Raw Water Operations Manager. This is a great opportunity to learn the principles of agricultural and municipal water supply, ditch water conveyance, irrigation system design, and application, as well as regional delivery. The successful candidate will operate and maintain non-potable pumping stations and the non-potable distribution system including start up and shutting down the systems annually.
Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current and valid driver’s license
- Demonstrated knowledge of mechanical equipment
- A minimum of six (6) months of experience operating lawn mowing equipment and sprinklers
- A minimum of six (6) months of experience performing maintenance on pumps
- Must be able to read, adjust, and correct issues on a computerized control panel
- Must be available to work weekends, as needed, or as part of an on-call rotational schedule
- A combination of related education, experience, certifications, and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job may be considered
PREFERRED:
- Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred but not required

- Ability to read, comprehend, and interpret instructions in English

- Ability to operate light and heavy equipment, power tools, and hand tools
- Ability to learn job-related skills through oral or written instructions
- Knowledge of computer-controlled pump stations
- Mechanical ability enough to repair and/or replace parts as needed
- Knowledge of the business and organizational structure of Colorado municipalities

Essential Functions (Duties and Responsibilities):
- Measures distance using a tape measure or calibrated instruments
- Operates machinery such as a riding lawn mower, a tractor, or mower
- Moves debris, dirt, and other materials from one location to another using a shovel, rake, or other hand tools
- Interprets information on a computer screen and follows sequence of repair information
- Performs work on pumps, valves, and sprinklers
- Takes same time-of-day readings of station meters
- Inspects and clean ditches
- Assists system operators with routine maintenance, mowing of grass, and maintains the pump station sites on a daily basis
- Checks stations daily and trouble shoots and repairs as needed, including pumps, computer-controlled pump panels, filters, piping, ponds, ditches, and the inside and outside of the sites
- Assists customers with questions and issues
- Works with internal and external customers on a regular basis
- Works with Water Resources to get the correct water to the correct location, as needed, including filling, or releasing water from Poudre Ponds, operating of the Boyd Ditch, and other ditches as requested
- Performs other ditch work as needed such as mowing and weeding; manages the ponds and ditches as needed to keep them operating properly
- Grades roads, cleans debris out of ponds and ditches, and keeps the sites presentable at all times
Work Environment:
- Exposure to all weather conditions
- Exposure to various types of machinery noise, some levels to excess
- Exposure to untreated water
- Work in small and/or cramped areas
Physical Requirements:
- Manual dexterity enough to make precise and repetitive arm-hand position movements and maintain static balance while using hand and power tools
- Manual dexterity enough to work with small objects, i.e. placing washers on bolts
- Repetitive or continual standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking over long periods of time
- Ability to climb ladders or steps to reach jobs
- Ability to move heavy objects (50 lbs. or more) long distances (20 feet or more)
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis
- Vision enough to perform above functions, read printed instructions
