Specifically, this role serves to deploy and update records schedules, prepare transition to electronic records, and provide close out services as defined by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
What does a typical day look like for the Records Management Specialist?
You will:
- Prepare transition to electronic records
- Provide close out services as defined by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA)
- Respond to inquiries, ensuring program offices meet federal compliance requirements
- Provide guidance on and coordination of records creation, organization, maintenance, use, evaluation, preservation, and disposition throughout their lifecycle
- Liaise with multiple program offices on records management topics
- Provide feedback and analysis on internal and external records management governance documents, including policies and procedures
- Assist with the development of inventories and file plans, draft and process new and updated retention schedules
- Develop and deliver records management curricula and topics, either routine or ad hoc
- Create weekly summary reports due the first day of work week
- Provide meeting notes for all meetings attended no later than 24 hours after the meeting or the next business day
- Provide document review and updates to SOP as requested, timeline to be determined when assigned, delivered in the Microsoft Office format as requested
What qualifications do you look for?
You might be the person we're looking for if you have:
- A bachelor's or higher in information management related field or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
- At least 2 years of experience with records management
- Detailed understanding of records management laws, regulations, and practices for federal records Management
- Experience creating or maintaining records inventories, file plans, tracking methodologies, and retention schedules
- Exposure to electronic records management including document or case management systems
- Knowledge of NARA systems, ERA and ARCIS (preferred)
