Westminster Canterbury of Lynchburg, a 5-Star rated Continuing Care Retirement Community in Central VA is seeking a Recreation Assistant to join our team! Full-time position is available with a complete benefits package including Medical, Dental, Vision, Paid Time Off, 403B with company match, and more. Hours are Monday through Friday 8 AM to 4:30 PM but may require some weekends and Holidays based on business needs.
- Promotes person-centered care for all residents.
- Assists with the planning and implementation of all therapeutic and recreational programming in Health Care to affect the maintenance and improvement of the physical, mental, and social well-being of residents. This includes utilizing available resources and providing a diversified program each month based on residents' needs and interests. Documents resident participation daily. Assists with HC, ALU, and MSU programming as assigned.
- Interviews and assesses assigned residents before initial care planning. Documents and maintains admission assessments, MDS, care plans, and progress notes on time as assigned.
- Participates in resident care plan conferences for assigned residents including making recommendations concerning recreation therapy methods and techniques as assigned.
- Transports residents to and from group activities and assists with publicizing programs for residents well in advance.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with resident families, other staff, and visitors.
- Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations and facility policies about activity programming.
- Plans and documents appropriate leisure activities for individuals who do not come out to group activities and/or require individualized services, based on the initial assessment. Visits with assigned individuals in their rooms for socialization and activities weekly and more often as needed.
- Assists with the care and maintenance of facility aviary and fish.
- Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, and a positive, calm environment.
- Assists with the maintenance of activity supplies and materials.
- Assists with newspaper and mail delivery as assigned.
- Performs other related duties incidental to the work
Position requirements:
- Must be a high school graduate or equivalent thereof.
- Certified in CPR by American Red Cross and First Aid
- Dementia Training as required by the Department of Social Services
- Experience working with older adults and facilitating group activities.
- ADC (Activity Director Certificate) or CTRS (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist)
