The Conservation Corps of Long Beach (CCLB) is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has helped at-risk young adults develop themselves since 1987. To date, more than 10,000 young people have participated in CCLB classes and service projects, learning new skills while contributing to the quality of life for residents of the greater Long Beach area.
Mission The primary mission of the Conservation Corps of Long Beach is to develop at-risk youth to reach their full potential through work, service, conservation, and education.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Recycling Coordinator, the Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day direction and training of a crew of 2-14 young adults, aged 18-26 years, in a variety of work and educational activities. The Supervisor will assist the Recycling Coordinator in the oversight and coordination of Cal Recycle grant objectives.
Essential Responsibilities:
Corpsmember Supervision:
- Lead and or facilitate E-Waste, Oil, Waste Tire and BCRF trainings
- Maintain discipline, positive crew moral, build teamwork and cooperation among crewmembers and ensure that the rules and regulations of the CCLB are upheld
- Prepare written reports, Corpsmember Evaluations, daily statistics, logs and other work related documentations.
Recycling Operations:
- Working under the Recycling Coordinator, the Supervisor will assist in the Recycling crew(s) Department to ensure safety, quality, and implementation of recycling projects.
Work Project Implementation:
- Supervise recycling crews
- Responsible for safe work practices, proper use of and maintenance of tools, vehicles and equipment.
- Responsible for quality control of work
- Assist with acquiring materials and equipment for recycling projects.
Training and Instruction:
- Conduct corpsmember training and instructional presentations or workshops in such areas as E-waste, used oil, waste tire, organics and BCRF sorting First Aid/CPR, safety, driver training, tool safety, environmental education or other areas related to project work or program goals.
- Teach corps skills, encourage the development of good work habits, conservation, practices and teamwork.
- Recycling crew Leaders safety, leadership training.
- Inaugurates and maintains an accident prevention program for all recycling projects
Reporting Procedures:
- Keeps technical records of projects; maintains both written and photographic logs.
- Prepare corpsmember evaluations, incident reports and documentation of crewmember attendance, participation, and work hours.
- Conduct regular crew and individual restoration meetings to discuss corpsmember progress.
- Counsel, motivate, and discipline individual corpsmembers as appropriate.
- Participate in staff and corpsmember meetings.
- Assist the Restoration Manager with preparation of project reports by way of uploading statistical information and work project photos.
Driving/ Vehicle Inspection:
- The Recycling Supervisor position requires a Valid California Driver's License and a clean driver's record.
- Ability to competently prevent and report vehicle issues through proper inspection and reporting.
Reporting Procedures:
- Prepare oral and written reports of purchases, maintenance schedules, expenses, corpsmember evaluations, incident reports and documentation of corpsmember attendance, participation and work hours.
- Assist Recycling/Bids Coordinator with monthly project reports.
- Counsel, motivate, and discipline individual corpsmembers as appropriate.
- Participate in staff and corpsmember meetings.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Knowledge of principles of safety, use of hand and power tools
- Knowledge of methods of group instruction and motivation
- Ability to properly discipline corpsmembers, keep records, prepare reports and
communicate effectively with young adults under the supervision of a supervisor
- Commercial Class C with Passenger Endorsement Driver's License or obtained with in the first 90 days of employment
- Three years or more of experience in working with young adults from a diverse social and
ethnic background.
- Minimum of one year experience in recycling or waste management projects
- Maintaining a safe work environment
Other Duties and Requirements:
- Must be able to perform physical exercises, heavy lifting and manual labor.
- DMV print-out, Commercial Class C Driver's License with Passenger Endorsement
- First Aid/CPR certification is required as a condition of employment (or within 30 days of employment).

Salary and Benefits:
- $21.70 to $28.72 per hour (Salary Grade 13 and Salary Grade 15) (reflects two pay ranges 13 and 15) based on a level of experience and education that exceeds the minimum requirements and is commensurate with the compensation scale (salary range).
