About the Job
We are currently recruiting for the position of Red Hat Linux Administrator – Level 3 to support our work with the United States Patent and Trademark Office in Alexandria, VA.
Description:
This is a mid-level administrator position that supports the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) Infrastructure Services Division's (ISD) Operating Systems Operations Section (OSOS) by performing administration and maintenance activities on various UNIX and Linux servers in use at the USPTO. The servers supported are located in both production and test data centers located on the USPTO campus. Additional remote support is provided for systems located at the USPTO Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Data Center located in Pennsylvania.
Duties performed will include, but not be limited to, the following:
• Administering user rights on the systems supported and maintained by OSOS.
• Creating and/or maintaining file systems.
• Performing file system migrations.
• Adding additional storage as required.
• Working on assigned Change Requests/Problem tickets.
• Investigating and responding to alerts generated by the various monitoring systems in use at USPTO.
• Performing hardware maintenance/repair activities.
• Investigating and resolving operating system errors.
• Assisting application owners with identifying underlying OS issues associated with their applications.
• Maintaining Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization environment (RHEV).
• Assisting with server migration from within RHEV.
• Maintaining installation and configuration procedures for new server builds.
• Troubleshooting hardware and software problems with AIX, Client-UX and Redhat servers.
• Writing custom start scripts for various applications.
• Evaluating and implementing potential new tools and technologies.
• Assisting with project plans (schedules, task assignments, resource estimations) for major technical initiatives assigned to the team.
• Writing and maintaining technical documentation for new and existing projects.
Work Experience/Skills Requirements:
The successful candidate will have experience in the following:
• 2-4 years Linux system administration supporting a medium to large user base (3,000-10,000 users).
• 3+ years supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6, and 7.
• Experience with RHEV, Tomcat, and Apache.
• Experience with Client-UX, AIX and MySQL is a plus.
• Knowledge of XEN, KVM or other virtualization is a plus.
• Familiar with LVM and Red Hat satellite servers.
• Experience working with and troubleshooting storage issues.
• Ability to write or read Shell scripts.
• RHCSA certification strongly preferred.

This position requires the ability to obtain and hold a government Public Trust (SF-85) level clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
