In this multifaceted role, you will be instrumental in coordinating and managing the flow of information across various healthcare services, including medical, pediatric, podiatry, dental, and behavioral health, ensuring our patients receive the highest standard of care.
Role Overview
As the Referral and Health Information Coordinator, you will be responsible for accurately and efficiently managing patient medical records and the seamless coordination of referrals across multiple healthcare services. This role is essential to the overall patient experience, ensuring that records are meticulously maintained and that referrals are processed smoothly, whether they pertain to medical, pediatric, podiatry, dental, or behavioral health needs.
You will generate, prepare, and organize records while managing referrals by assessing provider requests, coordinating with specialists or facilities, and navigating insurance requirements. Your efforts will ensure that our patients receive timely and appropriate care in all aspects of their health journey at Harrington Family Health Center.
Key Responsibilities
- Referral Coordination
- Receive and assess patient referral requests from healthcare providers.
- Coordinate referrals to appropriate specialists or facilities, ensuring all necessary pre-authorization and prior testing are completed.
- Work closely with insurance companies to fulfill requirements and facilitate timely referrals.
- Records Management
- Generate, prepare, and organize patient records across medical, pediatric, podiatry, dental, and behavioral health services.
- Process requests for records and maintain updated health information in the EMR system.
- Upload patient data from ER visits, hospital discharges, and other relevant medical sources into the system.
- Patient Support
- Provide compassionate and helpful assistance to patients, addressing their concerns and questions regarding records and referral processes.
- Ensure that all interactions contribute to a positive and efficient patient experience.
- Administrative Duties
- Perform various clerical and record-keeping tasks to support health center services.
- Maintain high confidentiality and compliance with all health information regulations.
Requirements
- Education
- A high school diploma or GED equivalent is required.
- Medical Assistant Program or Dental Assistant certificate preferred.
- Experience
- Preferred: 1 year of experience as a medical administrative assistant in an outpatient setting and specialty area.
- Experience with EMR systems: 1 year preferred.
- Previous experience working with members of the community is highly valued.
- Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to effectively listen to and support patient needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Job Type
- Full-time
- Monday to Friday, with 8 or 10-hour shifts available.
Compensation
- $17.00 - $19.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
