Primary Function of Position
In this role, you will help support health promotion and health education within the refugee community of the Salt Lake Valley. Your principal responsibility will be to organize and coordinate a health promotion fair where refugee clients and the greater community can be connected to the community-based health services available to them. Secondary to this role will be the support of the health promotion team by assisting in the teaching of our "Navigating the Healthcare System" classes, health mentorship to clients including bus orientations to the nearest clinic, and auxiliary support of our monthly immunization clinics.
Major Position Responsibilities
- Organize and Coordinate a Health Promotion Fair: Lead and facilitatea Health Promotion Fair and work in collaboration with community partners to organize the fair.
- Navigating the Healthcare System:Teach Navigating the Healthcare System classes to newly arrived refugees and explain benefits and limitations with Medicaid.
- Health Mentorship:Provide 1:1 support to newly arrived refugees by helping them walk through scheduling their own personal appointments, utilizing interpreters when needed, and support with anything related to health care access.
- Clinic Tours and Bus Orientations: Provide group and/or 1:1 support to newly arrived refugees, teaching them how to use bus routes to their nearest clinic and helping them navigate amenities available in their nearest clinic.
- Immunization Clinic Coordination: Work with Health Promotion Coordinator to coordinate and facilitate Immunization Clinic in collaboration with the Salt Lake County Health Department.
- Research and Resource Development:Research different community programs and resources for newly arrived refugees to access.
- Health Team Intakes and Education:Help greet newly arrived refugees every Monday and provide them with education on different healthcare services provided by CCS.
- Data Entry:Document all health promotion services provided to clients.

Work Environment
- This position is in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

- Demonstrate ability to work in a team environment and ability to work with diverse groups of people. 
- Understand the overall Refugee Resettlement process and the programs that CCS administers and provides for clients. 
- Work independently in a safe, appropriate manner.  
- Demonstrate both problem-solving and problem-prevention. 
- Display sensitivity to the needs of refugee families, CCS staff, volunteers, and partnering organizations.  
- Consistently performs work assignments in a timely manner.   
- Proficiency in English-oral and written communication. 
- Must maintain confidentiality with individuals/families. 
- Proficient computer skills.   
- Personal qualities of openness, respect, compassion, and graciousness in helping others.  
Education, Training, and Experience
- Must currently be a candidate for a higher education degree, a graduate from an accredited university, or an international language student. 
- Experience working with refugees is preferred, but not required.  
- Proficiency in another language is preferred, but not required.  
Background Screening Requirement
- Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.
Licenses, certifications, and credentials
- A current Utah driver's license and provide proof of auto insurance meeting minimum policy liability limits of $50,000 per person and $100,000 per incident. Additionally, be 21 years of age or older, maintain a clean driving record, and have the capacity to fulfill CCS vehicle safety standards.
Expected Schedule
- This part-time unpaid internship commitment is 8 - 20 hours per week for 3 - 4 months.
