Summary
The Regional Industrial Engineer (RIE) will work closely with all North American plants and bogs to support and lead initiatives related to SunGro’s growth, modernization, standardization, and improvement plans. The incumbent will be a strong change leader capable of effectively and collaboratively working with all levels of employees having a wide range of education, skillset, and backgrounds. To enable this, the RIE will frequently travel to SunGro plants and bogs in the states of California, Oregon, and Utah, working closely with them to identify and execute projects with impactful change.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Define, manage and execute improvement projects and initiatives within region of responsibility.
- In conjunction with plant management teams, lead the evaluation, implementation, and commissioning of capital projects.
- Manage financial spend of capital projects to be on time and on budget at the right quality to serve the sites in region.
- Draft and design layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to illustrate maximum efficiency, using drafting tools and computer.
- Review budgets, production schedules, engineering specifications, orders, and related information to obtain knowledge of manufacturing methods, procedures, and activities.
- Support implementation and adoption of standardized CMMS program across all SunGro Sites, including data development and analysis.
- Apply continuous improvement, lean manufacturing toolsets within SunGro Operations Model for Excellence (SOME).
- Apply statistical methods and perform mathematical calculations to determine manufacturing processes, staff requirements, and production standards.
- Frequently travel to and collaborate with bog- and plant personnel to map harvest- and peat processing steps, while identifying opportunities for improvements to increase capacity and reduce costs.
- Confer with vendors, staff, and management personnel regarding purchases, procedures, product specifications, manufacturing capabilities, and project status.
- Communicate with operators and management to develop production and design standards.
- Develop manufacturing methods, labor utilization standards, and cost analysis systems to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
- Recommend- and implement methods for improving utilization of personnel, material, and utilities through process, system or equipment changes or upgrades.
- Plan and establish sequence of operations from peat harvesting through processing and shipping to promote efficient utilization of assets and to achieve ideal flow.
- Other duties as required by the business.
Requirements
- Degree in applicable field, such as Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering preferred.
- PMP designation preferred.
- 7 years’ experience working in a fast paced, high mix manufacturing environment.
- Experience of managing projects over $1M per asset.
- Hands-on, can do it attitude to get projects completed.
- Ability to use 2D and 3D modelling software such as AutoCad and SolidWorks.
- Automation experience with PLCs and electrical systems an asset.
- Strong change manager with proven experience to gain buy-in from employees on process changes.
- Good, concise, and adaptable communication skills are paramount.
- Ability to relate process improvement and change to positive financial business impact.
- Proven collaborator, able to work closely with a cross-functional, mixed-education team to solve complex problems with robust solutions.
- Detail oriented with the ability to effectively communicate complex issues and solutions via simple, understandable means.
- Frequent travel up to 75% within region. Expected to be on-site for project installation and commissioning.
- Periodically may be required to travel to other regions of Canada and US to support other projects.
- May be required to lift up to 25Kg.
- Full, clean driver’s license required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be willing to live in the assigned area as needed.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
