Summary:
A Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) is an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) who practices both autonomously and collaboratively with various healthcare providers. CRNAs deliver high-quality, evidence-based anesthesia and pain care services to patients across the lifespan in diverse settings, including surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic, therapeutic, and pain management procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Perform and document pre-anesthesia assessments and evaluations of patients.
- Review, request, and order laboratory/diagnostic studies (as permitted by state law).
- Obtain informed consent for anesthesia and related services.
- Develop and implement anesthesia care plans.
- Select, obtain, prepare, and use equipment, monitors, supplies, and drugs for sedation, anesthesia, and pain management.
- Administer analgesic and anesthetic agents, adjuvant drugs, fluids, or blood products as needed.
- Manage airway, including fiberoptic intubation.
- Facilitate emergence and recovery from anesthesia by evaluating patient response and administering necessary medications and fluids.
- Provide post-anesthesia pharmacological or fluid support for the cardiovascular system.
- Administer respiratory support to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygenation during the post-anesthesia period.
- Evaluate patient responses to anesthesia and surgery, taking corrective action as needed.
Qualifications:
- Holds current active state licensure as a registered nurse.
- Graduate of a nurse anesthesia educational program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs.
- Certified or recertified by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists.
- Insurable by an appropriate medical malpractice insurer.
- Demonstrates current competency in clinical responsibilities.
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a CRNA.
- Graduate of an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program approved by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) at the time the program was completed by the applicant.
- Current, full active and unrestricted licensure as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the U.S. or in the District of Columbia.
Work Schedule:
Provides nurse anesthesia services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Scheduling requirements are according to the department's needs, including regular and irregular tours (e.g., 8-hour, 10-hour, and 12-hour shifts).
