Job Summary
We're seeking a dedicated and skilled Registered Nurse to join our long-term acute care team. In this role, you'll provide both direct and indirect patient care, communicating effectively with physicians, the Director of Nursing (DON), and co-workers about changes in patient conditions. You'll be adept at responding swiftly and accurately to evolving clinical situations and performing general nursing duties across various departments with appropriate supervision.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Comprehensive Assessments: Conduct thorough head-to-toe assessments for all patient populations, including pediatric, geriatric, and general patients, and perform reassessments as required by policy.
- Pain Management: Assess and manage pain effectively using appropriate techniques, and educate patients and families about pain management strategies.
- Care Planning: Revise care plans based on patient responses to treatment and evaluate the effectiveness of care plans daily.
- Medication Administration: Demonstrate knowledge of medications and ensure correct administration according to the patient's age and clinical condition, adhering to the five rights of medication administration to minimize errors.
- Patient Education: Develop and implement teaching plans tailored to identified learning needs, involving family members as appropriate and assessing the effectiveness of the education provided.
- Procedure Assistance: Assist physicians with procedures and perform technical and manual tasks as required by your licensure.
- Respectful Care: Treat patients and their families with the utmost respect and dignity, addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and spiritual needs. Act as a liaison among administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
- Professional Interaction: Engage professionally with patients and families, including them in the development of their care plans.
- Developmental Care: Apply knowledge of growth and development to provide age-appropriate care, interpreting patient data to meet specific needs.
- Safety and Coordination: Ensure patient care is provided in a safe environment, minimizing medical/healthcare errors, and consult with other departments to support an interdisciplinary approach to patient care.
- Effective Communication: Maintain clear communication with Team Leaders, co-workers, and physicians, and build positive working relationships across departments.
- Documentation and Equipment Management: Ensure documentation meets current standards and manage equipment safely and correctly. Coordinate and supervise patient care as needed.
- Adaptability: Demonstrate flexibility, organizational skills, and the ability to perform well under stress.

- Professional Appearance: Adhere to the dress code with a neat and clean appearance.
- Ongoing Education: Complete annual education requirements and in-services in a timely manner.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements and uphold patient confidentiality.
- Punctuality: Report to work on time and complete tasks within designated time frames. Wear identification while on duty and accurately use the computerized punch time system.
- Engagement and Representation: Attend at least 75% of staff meetings annually, read and return all monthly meeting minutes, and actively participate in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. Represent the organization positively and professionally.
- Ethical Standards: Comply with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices and communicate the hospital's mission, ethics, and goals.
Regulatory Requirements
- Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
- Licensure: Hold current Registered Nurse licensure in Louisiana.
- Certifications: Current BCLS certification required. ACLS certification or completion of an arrhythmia course is preferred.
