Job Purpose
The contract RN role will provide clinical support to an off-site Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) an internal, corporate, private medical practice. This role will support the NP/PA in the evaluation, consultation/referral, case management and, in some cases, treatment for employees. This role will support the NP/PA in medical regulatory compliance for the ongoing health and wellbeing of our workforce and provide employee education to reduce the frequency of lost-time incidents (e.g., absences and medical leaves) due to illness or injury.

Job Purpose
The contract RN role will provide clinical support to an off-site Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) an internal, corporate, private medical practice. This role will support the NP/PA in the evaluation, consultation/referral, case management and, in some cases, treatment for employees. This role will support the NP/PA in medical regulatory compliance for the ongoing health and wellbeing of our workforce and provide employee education to reduce the frequency of lost-time incidents (e.g., absences and medical leaves) due to illness or injury.
Key Accountabilities
- Assist the NP/PA with pre-employment and Department of Transportation (DOT) physical exams, provide Nursing care during walk-in visits by Client employees, and maintain day-to-day office operations. These essential functions are as follows:
- Demonstrating strong interpersonal skills required to provide care for injured and ill employees, collaborate with team members across disciplines and departments, and interface with external partners (medical providers, vendors, etc.).
- Performing point-of-care testing, specifically urinalysis via test strip (”dipstick”), and blood glucose monitoring via fingerstick.
- Providing clinical care and education – within the RN scope of practice – to walk-ins, including collaborating with the on-site Athletic Trainer for soft-tissue injuries
- Using multimodal education (e.g., written, verbal) and teach-back to educate and support employees regarding preventative health, early intervention, and effectively managing chronic conditions, particularly (but not limited to) hypertension, sleep apnea, diabetes, and mental health challenges/disorders.
- Documenting proficiently and efficiently within the electronic medical record, including uploading pertinent documents.
- Managing the operations of the on-site health office, including but not limited to: maintaining the appointment schedule, ordering supplies, maintaining equipment, quality controls for point of care testing materials/equipment, etc.
- Collaborating with NP/PA, other internal departments, and external medical providers to return employees back to work promptly following illness or injury.
- Collaborating with the NP/PA to review and analyze pertinent surveillance data (regarding DOT exams, hearing conservation, etc.) and share findings with stakeholders for performance management, quality improvement, and regulatory reporting purposes.
- Collaborating with the NP/PA to evaluate employee compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) safety standards and regulations and provide education, treatment plan, and recommendations to support compliance with safety standards.
- Performing other pertinent duties as assigned by the NP/PA, within RN scope of professional practice.
- The following tasks will depend on training or applicable certification: Performing respiratory fit testing, hearing screening, and/or urine collection/sample handling for drug testing by an external reference lab.
Qualifications Required:
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Active New York state license as a Professional Registered Nurse
- Minimum of two (2) years’ recent experience providing direct clinical care as a RN, specifically caring for adults in a primary care/family medicine private practice or clinic.
- Current certification as a Basic Lifesaver (BLS) provider from a training program approved by the American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree
- Experience in providing direct clinical care in Occupational Medicine
- For hearing screening: Current COHC certification by CAOHC
- For respiratory fit testing: Current spirometry training in a NIOSH-approved program. A current course completion certificate will serve as evidence
Required Skills
- Documentation in an electronic medical record (Cority)
- Review and basic analysis of electronic reports regarding DOT examination and surveillance testing due dates and tracking of completions/compliance.
- Basic understanding of how to navigate and use Microsoft Office products, particularly Outlook email, Teams (for virtual meetings and direct messaging), Excel, and Word

- Position dually reports to the assigned NP/PA and the Manager of Medical Health and Wellness
- At the conclusion of this initial contract, there may be opportunity for the RN to continue with per diem/as needed basis.
