Position Summary
Provide nursing support for a wide variety of general and cosmetic dermatology surgical procedures.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for providing medical or surgical nursing care to patients in an outpatient surgical clinic
- Administer medications prescribed by physicians
- Perform medical procedures as directed by a physician
- Provide care to patients before and after surgery
- Oversee and guide employees that are under his/her supervision
- Respond to the wide variety of medical and surgical problems patients may experience while admitted surgical facility
- Administer intravenous (IV) fluids, dispense medications, coordinate medical records, and chart patient progress
- Measure and record vital signs, change dressings, help with physical therapy and other treatments
- Collaborate with other members of the healthcare team, such as doctors and laboratory technicians
- Review current surgery schedule each day and prepare the OR suite with supplies and equipment
- Evaluate facility compliance and readiness for Accreditation Survey and assist during surveys
- Monitoring and tracking daily, weekly and monthly surgery center logs
- Admits patient according to the facilities policy and procedure
- Maintains and demonstrates safe medication practices
- Demonstrates proper infection control procedures
- Assures the patient and/or family understands procedure to be performed
- Completes Pre-Operative, Intra-Operative, and Post-Operative functions and records
- Provides for patient safety by assuring a safe environment
- Sets priorities to facilitate the flow of patients efficiently
- Makes preoperative and postoperative patient phone calls
- Reviews pre-admission information. Notifies physician of any abnormal values or insufficient reports
- Administers and charts medications as ordered by the physician, reinforces and clarifies physician instructions and explanation of procedures to patient and family
- Maintains a positive and professional ambulatory surgery center environment by interacting with all persons in a considerate, helpful and courteous manner
- Ensures that all documentation, including but not limited to, History & Physical summary, operative consent, pre-op information form, allergy report, and proper lab work is in order before the patient is admitted to the operative suite
- Notifies the anesthesiologist, CRNA and Surgeon of any concerns arising from the admission procedure
- Follows all policies & procedures established by the practice in order to assure quality care to the patients
- Communicates with nursing staff and other health care team members any information which aides in the overall care of the patient
Qualifications:
- Previous surgical experience
- Familiar with surgery center accreditation
- Physician Office, Dermatology or Plastic Surgeon industry experience a plus
- Experience with Nextech software a plus
- Must be licensed in the State as an R.N. and have current ACLS
- Surgery experience (pre-operative, intra-operative, post-operative)
- Familiar with surgery center accreditation
- Dermatology or Plastic Surgery experience a plus
- Experience with Electronic Medical Records
