A well known Adult Day Services located in Brooklyn, NY is looking for an Registered Nurse
Type: Contract
Schedule: M-F, 08:30am-03:30pm
Location: Brooklyn, NY
Responsibilities:
• Under general supervision, is responsible for providing evaluation, diagnosis, and therapeutic intervention in accordance with policies, OPWDD regulations and standards of the professional registered nurse.
• Participates in interdisciplinary team meetings and annual reviews as required.
• Understands the Scope of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses and required supervision needed for LPN and non-licensed staff such as AMAP.
• Supervises staff providing care, including AMAPs and LPNs
INFECTION PREVENTION:
• Monitors communicable diseases and trains staff on infection control s through identification, assessment, reporting, and implementation of preventive measures, reporting concerns to ADS Director of Nursing
• Implements OSHA standards per the OSHA Infection Prevention Policy. Utilizes "Quarterly Infection Control Compliance Check List” and the "Site Specific Plan” in liaison with the site operations director to maintain OSHA safety standards.
MEDICATIONS and AMAP:
• Implements guidelines and training per Medication Policy & AMAP Policy, including initial AMAP certification, annual re-certification, de-certification, and annual AMAP in-service.
• Ensures that medication orders, medication administration records (MAR) and prescriptions are written accurately, up to date/renewed and appropriately documented and stored.
• Supervises the care and storage of all medications, maintaining safety and security as necessary, including safety of the keys.
• Supervises all medication and treatment administration to people supported during the program hours.
• Documents and reports medication error incidents as necessary.
OTHER:
• Provides nursing care and treatment for emergency first aid.
• Makes referrals to hospitals, ER, or physicians for further intervention, as needed. Supervises first aid care rendered by non-nursing staff. Documents care on nursing case note.
• Reviews incoming physical examinations and other medical documents for modifications to plan of protective oversight and report to interdisciplinary team. Informs direct care staff of any medical precautions concerning people supported.
• Reviews new physical examinations or and other medical documents and reporting changes requiring changes to the plan of protective oversight
• Completes initial intake nursing reviews, transfers and discharges following ADS guidelines.
• Maintains up to date Health Emergency Profile (HEP) assessments for people at the site.
• Attends staff meetings and case conferences as required, presenting relevant medical and nursing data concerning individual's health status and needs.
• Communicates medical and nursing issues with residence/parents/guardians
• Supervises and monitors eating safety and swallowing problems in coordination with ADS nutritionist
• Maintains inventory of all medical and nursing supplies for facility, ordering supplies as needed according to department guidelines.
• Conducts and keeps attendance of annual in-service training for staff following ADS training guidelines.
• Other duties as may be assigned by Director of Nursing or Site Operations Director.

Qualifications:
• Graduate of an accredited nursing school
• NYS Registered Nurse (RN) license
• CPR certified
• Proficient at using current computer office technology, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word etc.), SharePoint, Teams and Zoom
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional periodicals and journals, technical procedures, and governmental regulation, write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals, effectively present information and respond to questions.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
• Ability to complete dosage calculations, and other nursing math as necessary
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Ability to deal tactfully with staff, people supported, family members, visitors, government agencies and the public, provide leadership, work harmoniously with and supervise professional and nonprofessional staff, be patient, enthusiastic, and confident when handling people supported, understanding their abilities and functional level, be knowledgeable in the field of IDD and possess a good understanding of OPWDD regulations.
