MUST:
Experienced Registered Nurse
Must have 2 plus years as a Registered Nurse
Must have an active and good standing Registered Nurse Virginia Licensure
Must have current BLS certification
Must have experience working on EMR
Must have strong verbal and written communication skills
Must have experience reviewing patient medical history and reviewing medication
Must have experience working in a surgery center, ER, ICU, and/or Occupational health
Must be comfortable sitting for long periods at a time
Must be comfortable handle high volumes of phone calls
Experience is Preop/PACU is highly preferred
DUTIES:
Registered Nurse Pre-Assessment will be responsible for, but not limited to the following:
Performs a verbal assessment with the patient prior to admission via a phone interview
Collects the patient's medical history from previous medical records
Practice appropriate telephone and patient triage skills, being aware of the need to balance quality care with efficient use of time and resources
Ensure pre-operative care requirements of patients are accomplished through use of the nursing process including assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation
Perform patient teaching/education
Assess pertinent information, plan, implement, and document interventions and evaluate results
Thoroughly document all call encounters utilizing manual and/or on-line information systems at the time of the call
Consults with Medical Director/Chief of Anesthesia on any special needs depending on health history
Alert anesthesia of results of labs, physical assessment, or special needs of individual with medical problems prior to date of surgery
Notifies patient and surgeon of any pre-op lab or EKG needs, coordinates with surgeon's office and patient to obtain necessary lab results before admission
Communicates any patient special needs (blood sugar, disabilities, anxiety) to the Pre-OP/PACU Nurse Manager, coordinates with Anesthesia
