JOB SUMMARY
This position serves two key roles: (1) Registered Nurse and (2) Nurse Educator/Supervisor. The responsibilities focus on ensuring high-quality nursing oversight for individuals receiving Medical Respite Services under the licensure of Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana (VOASELA), in alignment with each individual's comprehensive plan of care and compliance with medical standards. Key duties include conducting assessments, providing training, monitoring, offering consultation to consumers and VOASELA employees, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams. As the Medical Respite RN Supervisor, this role ensures continuity and quality of care between acute care and recovery services. Additionally, the position is responsible for performing quality assurance activities to maintain compliance with funding regulations, agency policies, procedures, and CARF standards, ultimately ensuring the achievement of quality outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures that all nursing license requirements, VOASELA, and Medical Respite policies and procedures are followed.
2. Supervise, mentor, and support licensed practical nurses (LPNs) in the medical respite program.
3. Ensures each consumer's health status within the license scope and the need to alter the standard procedures of medication administration or non-complex tasks.
4. Provide leadership in crisis management, staff conflict resolution, and problem-solving
5. Assists with developing wellness plans, plans of care, intakes, other meetings, surveys, audits, and investigations as necessary.
6. Oversee the delivery of nursing care, including conducting patient assessments, medication adherence, and monitoring recovery.
7. Assesses consumers' health status in nursing monthly when there are changes in health status or as stated in the wellness plans and plan of care. Reassesses the health status of the consumer when notifications are received from the team. Determines if any medications/dosage changes require additional training for the team.
8. Review and maintain medical records and medication reconciliation, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality.
9. Conduct regular clinical audits and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
10. Completes and submits all required documentation to VOASELA within approved timelines.
11. Conducts all medical and medication-related training, including General (Medication Admin, Documentation, skills proficiency, and CPR) and Consumer-Specific training.
12. Reports incidents of neglect or abuse of consumers and follow up on all medical-related Critical Incident Reports.
13. Collaborate with physicians, social workers, case managers, and other healthcare providers to develop comprehensive care plans for respite patients.
14. Participate in quality improvement initiatives by regularly updating the team on patient progress, barriers to recovery, and discharge planning to enhance patient care and outcomes.
15. Offer patient education related to health, hygiene, medication adherence, and disease management.
16. Performs related duties as assigned, ensuring quality outcomes are achieved
17. Assist with developing and updating protocols, policies, and procedures for the medical respite program.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES
1. Completes CEUs and other trainings to maintain license.
2. Provides on-call coverage and consultation as needed.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Must have graduated from an accredited Nursing program and be licensed by the State of Louisiana as a registered nurse. Required to have at least two years of nursing experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical requirements include walking, sitting, standing, bending, squatting, and lifting in the performance of general office duties and general nursing practices. Required to assist in moving or transferring consumers. Must be able to drive a vehicle to multiple consumer homes per day or as required, in varying weather conditions and temperatures. Work is performed indoors and outdoors.
