HCW Qualifications:
· Degree/Education (5.2.4): Bachelor of Science in Nursing or related field. Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
· Experience: Two years’ experience as a Registered Nurse, preferably in Obstetrics or Women’s Health Clinic setting and as identified in the Task Order (TO). Knowledge of computer operations and proficiency in use of basic word processing, data entry and automated medical records.
· Board Certification (5.2.6.4.4)
- Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support
· Licensure/Registration: Current, full, active, and unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse and preferably certified/certification eligible by the National Certification Corporation (NCC) as an RNC-OB – Inpatient Obstetric Nursing or RNC-MNN – Maternal Newborn Nursing with 2 years full time experience in women’s health.
HCW Duties (5.1 Task 1):
· Coordinates patient care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals.
· Facilitates the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to clinical care, quality, and cost effectiveness.
· Ensures compliance with standards of care and practice in accordance with all established policies, procedures, and guidelines used in the MTF. Provides care within ethical and legal boundaries.
· Performs physical exam and health histories as required by clinic.
· Provides health promotions, counseling, patient education and performs in person/telephone triage.
· Administers medications and numerous other personalized interventions, such as phlebotomy, and IV insertions/administration.
· Recognizes adverse signs and symptoms and quickly reacts to assist patients in emergency situations. Provides emergency care as a Clinical Care Team member.
· Communicates and collaborates with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization.
· Makes referral appointments, enters specialty referrals, and arranges specialty care as appropriate.
· Orients and trains newly assigned RNs, LPNs, and ancillary personnel to unit policies and procedures, skills, and standards of practice.
· Participates/conducts research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes, to include peer reviews.
· Triages patients’ needs telephonically, electronically, and on a walk-in basis, per MDG policies and procedures.
· Must be skillful, tactful, and professional in communicating with patients during all aspects of their care. Serves as an advocate for and ensures appropriate education is provided to the patient and their families as needed.
· Must possess organization, problem-solving, and communication skills to articulate medical requirements to patients, families/caregivers, medical and non-medical staff in a professional and courteous manner.
· Maintains all required certifications, ensures attains annual Continuing Education Units (CEUs), and completes required MDG RN/staff training.
· Performs other duties within the RN Primary Care scope of care and MDG policies and procedures to include cross training and RN duties in the Family Health Clinic.
Women’s Health Specific Duties:
· Provides comprehensive primary care to a select population of essentially healthy women in a variety of settings to include, obstetrical antepartum management, postpartum care, and gynecologic care to include in-house care coordination and disease management for patients requiring further coordination/follow-up.
· Monitors and facilitates adherence to treatments, provides education, coordinates care, maintains data/ dysplasia registries, and performs full scope of clinical nursing.
· Telephone and in-person assessment/evaluation includes the determination of optimal time and location for patient management (ER, clinic, homecare) and follow up care as required.
· Prescribes and communicates treatment plan and patient teaching in accordance with established protocols. Collects and assesses significant patient history information and performs all necessary patient teaching.
· Performs nursing services to include setting up, administering treatments, operating, and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as colposcope, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzer, nebulizers, and other clinic specific equipment.
· Makes referral appointments and arranges specialty care as appropriate.
· Serves as an advocate for and ensures appropriate education is provided to the patient or targeted populations for the purpose of promoting adherence to treatment plans self-care actions and education programs. Ensures activities match the level of the patients’ clinical risk readiness to change and health literacy.
· Identifies, collects, monitors, interprets, and evaluates measurable outcome data within established time frames according to local/AF/DOD requirements. Submits reports as required per local/AF/DoD policy and guidance.
· Educates/trains the healthcare team and facility staff on policies and procedures for utilization and implementation of guidelines, protocols, and other women’s health specific management activities.
· May be required to augment clinical nursing support during the absence of other nurses in the Medical Group to include Pediatrics and Family Health, if the provider is out or if there is a nursing shortage in either clinic due to illness, leave or deployments.
