The Rehab Department Associate or Intern at MUSC Health - Orangeburg is a versatile role designed for a highly motivated individual currently pursuing a degree or having completed an Associate’s degree (Intern) or has completed their Bachelor's degree (Associate) and is seeking hands-on experience in various facets of rehabilitation, fitness, sports performance, athletic training, administrative, and wellness services. This position supports multiple areas within the department, providing essential services under the supervision of licensed and unlicensed care team members. The intern will be expected to adapt to changing needs, providing essential services under the supervision of licensed professionals. This role is unlicensed, and duties will align with the associate or intern’s current education and training level. This role can be highly variable as the needs of the department can shift quickly and dramatically.Entity

Job Description
Clinical and Rehabilitation Support:
- Assist in general patient care within clinical settings, including preparation for provider exams and procedures under supervision.
- Perform advanced rehab tech duties such as setting up equipment, preparing treatment areas, and assisting patients with exercises as instructed by licensed therapists.
- Provide support in documenting patient information and maintaining accurate records.
- Aid in basic triage and preparation for athletic training evaluations, including setup for telehealth consultations and taping as directed by an Athletic Trainer.
Fitness and Wellness Support:
- Support HealthPlex Fitness and Wellness Associates by keeping gym areas clean and organized.
- Assist in orienting new members to gym facilities and equipment.
- Conduct fitness assessments and offer guidance on exercise routines under supervision.
- Provide personal training or other fitness services as qualified.
Administrative Assistance:
- Help with data inputting, analysis, and maintaining departmental databases.
- Conduct research on various topics related to rehabilitation services and present findings to department leaders.
- Create and maintain forms, spreadsheets, and presentations to support department operations.
- Coordinate schedules, assist in organizing files, and handle general office tasks as needed.
Athletic Training Support:
- Assist Athletic Trainers during practices and games, including setup and breakdown of practice and competition areas.
- Provide basic first aid and emergency care under the supervision of licensed professionals.
- Support in organizing and conducting wellness initiatives, such as pre-participation physicals and injury prevention programs.
- Coordinate meetings and help prepare for meetings with school and hospital officials.
- Perform taping and other interventions once trained and deemed competent by the athletic training team.
- Assist and support athletic trainers in telehealth services.
Liaison Duties:
- Act as a point of contact between different departments, ensuring smooth communication and coordination of care.
- Support the implementation of departmental initiatives and projects.
- Facilitate communication between patients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Assist in the development and dissemination of educational materials and resources.
Other Duties as Assigned:
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability to take on additional responsibilities as needed to support departmental and organizational goals.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure seamless operations and optimal patient and member experiences.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or a related health field (Associate) OR
- Current enrollment in an Associate’s or Bachelor’s program or completion of an Associate’s program in a related health field.
- Have BLS/CPR/First Aid training or secure within 2 weeks of being hired.
- Proven experience in a related support role is a plus, but not required.
- Basic understanding of sports medicine, athletic training, rehabilitation services, fitness, and/or wellness programs.
- Strong communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and adapt to changing priorities.
Work Environment:
- Primarily works in clinical, fitness, and office environments.
- Must be available for flexible scheduling, including after hours, nights, weekends, and on-call as needed, especially when supporting athletic trainers and their student athletes and their teams.
- Involves setting up and breaking down for programs and events, with exposure to equipment with moving mechanical parts.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to drive, use hands, stand, walk, sit, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, balance, talk, and hear.
- Must be able to lift or exert energy up to 10 pounds 25% of the time, 25 pounds 50% of the time, and up to 50 pounds 25% of the time.
- Requires distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Mental Requirements:
- Ability to read and interpret business or safety manuals, clinical or technical procedures, or regulations.
- Ability to write reports, correspondence, and manuals.
- Effective presentation skills and ability to respond to questions from groups, patients, families, other employees, and medical staff.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to deal with problems involving concrete variables and standardized situations.
Population Served:
- Interacts with children, adolescents, adults, and aging adults.
- Provides direct care and services tailored to the physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related needs of members in the assigned work area.
Additional Job Description
Education: High School Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: 0-6months
Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
