How you make a difference:
The Rehabilitation Specialist role involves developing, organizing, and implementing psychiatric rehabilitation groups and activities that address the needs of patients with severe and persistent mental illness. This position requires conducting daily interventions, including formal groups, individual counseling, crisis intervention, behavioral programming, and auxiliary support activities for patients, and documenting daily objective-driven contact notes that generate monthly progress notes. Additionally, the Rehabilitation Specialist will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary treatment teams to achieve measurable objectives specified in the Recovery Plan within the facility's standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plans and conducts daily groups to address the needs of patients with severe and persistent mental illness, incorporating individual behavior plans and mentoring, while maintaining a creative, stimulating environment.
- Performs timely, accurate documentation of services provided and demonstrates knowledge of care and treatment needs of patients of different ages, providing individualized care and treatment that is consistent with the age and life span developmental needs of each patient.
- Demonstrates honesty, consistency, fairness, positivity, nurturing in daily interactions, values/philosophy of Role Recovery approach, and advocacy for patients, while effectively managing time and making cooperative efforts with colleagues and other hospital staff.
- Handles crisis behavior effectively through identifying antecedents, verbal de-escalation, and CPI implementation, and effectively communicates therapeutically through verbal, para-verbal, and non-verbal means.
- Demonstrates sensitivity to cultural diversity issues, treats patients as individuals, considers their cultures when providing care and treatment, and completes yearly training to maintain competency.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Education
- Associate’s Degree in behavioral science or Bachelors degree in mental health field preferred. 3 years of experience in a patient setting will be considered in lieu of education.
Experience
- Minimum of (1) one year of a mental health setting.
