The department of Information Technology Services at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Senior Cloud Engineer.
About the Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Azure Administrator to join our IT team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and optimizing our Azure infrastructure, ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of our cloud-based systems. This role is ideal for an individual with extensive experience in Azure administration and a passion for leveraging cloud technologies to drive business success.

What You'll Do
- Design, implement, and manage Azure infrastructure solutions to meet business requirements.
- Monitor and optimize the performance, availability, and scalability of Azure resources.
- Implement and manage virtual networks, storage accounts, and other Azure services.
- Ensure the security of Azure resources through the implementation of best practices and compliance standards such as HIPAA, FERPA, NIST 800-171.
- Manage identity and access management (IAM) using Azure Active Directory.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments and implement necessary remediation.
- Develop and implement automation scripts using PowerShell, Azure CLI, ARM templates, as well as Terraform.
- Optimize cost management through efficient resource allocation and scaling strategies.
- Continuously evaluate and recommend improvements to the Azure environment.
- Design and implement backup and disaster recovery solutions for Azure workloads.
- Conduct regular testing of backup and recovery processes to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Design and implement storage solutions for Azure workloads as well as offsite solutions for on-prem workloads.
- The ability to assist end users with designing access solutions for their storage accounts.
- Set up and manage monitoring tools to track the health and performance of Azure resources.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to Azure infrastructure and services
- Collaborate with development and operations teams to ensure seamless integration and support.
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of Azure configurations, processes, and procedures.
- Generate and analyze reports on Azure usage, performance, and costs.
- Provide regular updates to management on the status of Azure projects and initiatives.
- On-Call rotation participation.
- Work with the existing endpoint team to assist them with AVD based projects
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- A minimum of 5 years of combined experience in the following:
- IT, with at least 3 years focused on Azure administration.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale Azure environments and implementing Azure solutions
- Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered.
- All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- In-depth knowledge of Azure services, including virtual machines, storage, networking, and security.
- Proficiency in automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., PowerShell, Azure CLI).
- Strong understanding of cloud security best practices and compliance standards.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- IAC - Terraform.
Licenses/Certifications
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or other relevant Azure, AWS, VMWare, Windows, or Linux certifications
