Primary Purpose:
The Assistant Superintendent, Technology and Information Services will provide strategic leadership in the identification, assessment, and management of the rapidly changing technology needs for over 119,000 students and 19,000 employees within Cypress-Fairbanks I.S.D. The Assistant Superintendent, Technology and Information Services is responsible for leading the infusion of current technology into our schools and District offices by providing highly motivated, professional leadership in all areas of technology planning and technology resource management.
Qualifications:
- Education/Degree(s):
- Required: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university
- Preferred: Master’s degree from a recognized, accredited college or university
- Professional experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in the technology industry
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated professional experience in a technology leadership role
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in K-12 education preferred
- Experience in the education industry preferred
- Certifications:
- Certified Education Technology Leader (CETL) preferred
Terms of Employment:
Probationary/Term Contract: 250 days
Salary:
EL-1 $136,918 (starting minimum salary)
Salary range (based on experience) as set by the Board of Trustees.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Possess a strong understanding of appropriate leading-edge technologies
- Must be a critical thinker with strong problem-solving skills
- Knowledge of current technology software and applications to include student accounting and school finance systems
- Management skills in recruiting, developing, and motivating diverse technical teams
- Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills
- Experience in research and evaluation related to the design and implementation of information technology systems
- Ability to implement policy and procedures
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Provide leadership in all aspects of technology for the school system.
- Coordinate development, refinement, and execution of the district-wide strategic technology plan, involving all stakeholders and governance committees.
- Lead District initiatives, collaborating across departments and functional areas that support adoption and implementation of technology in all aspects of school business, including those that promote 21st century skills.
- Establish and support cross-functional teams for needs assessment, decision-making, technology support, professional development, and other aspects of the District technology program.
- Manage and direct staff in support of all technology applications to help the District meet goals of strategic plan.
- Supervise or coordinate the skills development of all employees in the operation of technology.
- Build awareness among employees of available resources and the role of technology in instructional process.
- Develop and coordinate a broad range of technology-based resources, maximizing the availability and utilization of these resources.
- Supervise and maintain comprehensive cybersecurity program.
- Design and implement assessment processes for measuring the utilization and effectiveness of technology to support continuous improvement.
- Develop and execute a comprehensive and cost-effective program of preventive maintenance and repair services for technology devices.
- Coordinate the development of specifications, selection and purchasing for technology resources to ensure that all acquisitions provide optimum utility and cost-effectiveness.
- Work effectively with vendors and other external partners.
- Participate in the application and administration of technology-related grants to optimize external funding of system needs.
- Provides outstanding customer service.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Manage and motivate all teams in the Technology and Information Services Department with diverse skills and backgrounds. Consistently deliver quality client services by monitoring progress.

- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
- Posture: Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Motion: Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding, and use of mouse; occasional reaching
- Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
