What you will be doing:
As a Research Analyst 1/2/3, your role is crucial to supporting public health initiatives that drive meaningful change. You'll collect, analyze, and report data to government agencies, policymakers, researchers, and health facilities to help shape public health policies and practices. As a dedicated research professional, you'll work closely with data providers to support the Alaska Electronic Vital Records System and the Alaska Health Facilities Data Reporting program. Your work will ensure data quality and integrity, running reports, using SAS and R for analysis, and creating research products to disseminate findings. You'll respond to data requests and perform other research and analysis projects independently or under the guidance of the Research Unit supervisor. Your contribution to this important work is highly valued.

The Alaska Health Analytics and Vital Records Section (HAVRS) are chiefly responsible for the administration of:
- The Alaska Electronic Vital Records System (EVRS) which collects records of birth, death, fetal death, marriage, divorce, adoption, and induced termination.
- The Alaska Health Facilities Data Reporting (HFDR) program collects records of inpatient and outpatient discharges.
- The Alaska Cancer Registry (ACR) program which collects records of newly diagnosed cases of cancer.

The working environment you can expect:
This in-person position can be stationed in our Juneau (preferred) or Anchorage offices. Both locations provide free parking and are near public transportation stops.
Our Juneau office is in the Lemon Creek area at 5441 Commercial Blvd. Work is conducted in a quiet, private cubicle next to other Research Unit staff. The nearby area includes the Lemon Creek nature trail and businesses such as Costco, the Alaskan Brewing Company brewery and tasting room, and the Breeze In Bakery and Deli.
Our Anchorage office is in the Frontier Building at 3601 C St. Work is conducted in a relatively quiet, open workspace shared with the Alaska Cancer Registry and administrative staff. There are restaurants, cafes, and grocery stores in the nearby midtown area. The building also includes a break room, conference space, and other state offices.

- Research: Knowledge of the scientific principles, methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.
- Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
- Mathematical Reasoning: Solves practical problems by choosing appropriately from a variety of mathematical and statistical techniques.
