Job Summary
Candidate for this position will assist faculty members in their ongoing laboratory, greenhouse, and field research. This includes knowledge of running various equipment, troubleshooting minor problems, maintain service contracts, assist graduate students in their thesis research, and participate in college activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain chemical inventory, help order chemicals and equipment, maintain laboratory equipment and reagents in good and current condition for an efficient working laboratory
- Help and train graduate students in their research thesis projects
- Use computer applications for imaging and data storage
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum:
- Undergraduate degree in biological/agricultural sciences required; Masters degree from an accredited college preferred
- Hands-on experience in laboratory and/or field experimentation
Working conditions
The working conditions should be identified in this section - regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors, and so forth.
- Travel required - Traveling for training, and collaborative research (5-10%)
- Evening/night/weekend work - Monday - Friday 8AM-5PM
- Working outdoors - Field and greenhouse research pertaining to ongoing research projects (5-10%)
- Climate controlled environment
Physical requirements
The physical requirement of the job relates to lab experiments. There may be a need to lift objects that are up to 25 lbs in weight.
Direct reports
We are involved in providing internship opportunities to the students from high schools and technical institutions. We have visitors from universities, state officials and federal agencies. Providing tours is a regular activity.
