The Research Assistant provides assistance for faculty and learner research projects and supports research infrastructure and capacity building activities in the Center for Health Equityand for the Department of Family Medicine. Research Assistant will serve as the primary project manager for multiple on-going research projects in all phases of development and implementation, including supervision of work-study students and medical school, and graduate/undergraduate student interns. Additionally, the position will contribute to research design, IRB applications and processing, data analysis, and dissemination of study results. The position has additional duties that include, but are not limited to:
+ Research Infrastructure and Capacity Building including developing, editing and preparing proposals, study protocols and supporting documentation for federal, foundation and private industry-sponsored research funding agencies.
+ Study and Regulatory Management including overseeing and assist in ongoing studies, including data management, study materials development, data analysis, writing and editing scientific manuscripts for publication.
+ Responsible for IRB submissions and serve as the primary regulatory coordinator for IRB-related communications for the residency program, helping residency program faculty members submit and communicate with the IRB.
+ Supervise and train research assistants, as well as medical school, graduate and undergraduate student interns, providing support to the boards, data coordinating centers, sponsors, Principal Investigator, and Project Coordinators.
+ Prepare study budgets with the help of PI and department administrators, in accordance with federal, sponsor and institutional policies, procedures, and guidelines.
+ Monitor budgets and grant-related and research expenses, as well as reconcile expense reports with department administrator, managing study participant payments.
+ Complete sponsor annual progress reports and assist with financial reports, providing educational/research data entry and analysis for grants, reports, website, and social media.
+ Coordinate subcontractor, independent consultant, and other outside vendor invoices, payments, and contracts with the department and university administrative offices.
+ Coordinate residency-related research activities, including health-services research, medical education research and CAPRICORN, a practice-based research network (PBRN) of primary care providers in the DC metropolitan area.
+ Oversee and assist with medical, graduate, and undergraduate student independent-study projects conducted within the Network, coordinating survey instruments and statistical programs for study usage.
Work Interactions
The Research Assistant directly supports the Center for Health Equity Advisory Committee and subcommittees, and Area Health Education Center Advisory Committee/subcommittees for scheduling, event planning, meeting agendas and minutes, annual and periodic reports, website and newsletter updates and dissemination, and subcommittee specific assignments asassigned by the Director and chairs. The Research Assistant supports the center director, center grant-related Principal Investigators, CAPRICORN Director, and Department Administrator. This role will serve in a collaborative team support capacity for the department’s administrative team of Administrators, Program Managers, Research Assistants/Associates, Research Faculty, Research Fellows, graduate students, and their respective divisions.
Requirements and Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in health or science related field - consideration will be given for a combination of education and experience; Master’s degree preferred
+ Certified Research Administration designation is helpful
+ Preferred minimum of 1 year of research experience as a student including coursework, extramural research programs, or research administration
+ Required to maintain appropriate Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative
+ (CITI) training according to the supported research projects and IRB protocols
+ Knowledge of research methods, human research subjects protection and Good Clinical Practices, FDA regulations, OMB Uniform Guidance, and NIH funding guidelines
+ Analytical background with strong communication, writing and editing skills
+ Excellent organizational skills and detail-oriented
+ Knowledge of grants.gov, REDCap, SPSS or other statistical programs, Endnotes, Word, Excel

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$41,926.00 - $65,090.00
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
