HJF is seeking a Research Assistant II to perform research and/or development in collaboration with others for projects. The Research Assistant provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves problems of standard complexity in carrying out research projects in a clinical or laboratory environment.
Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques including but not limited to sterile cell culture, DNA cloning, protein expression and purification, western blotting; ability to follow detailed instructions; good communication, analytical and presentation skills. Strong molecular biology background required. Well organized and detail oriented. Abilities to use different computer software as word processing, data processing, graphics presentation of data, and others.
This position will be in support of Dr. Christopher Broder and Dr. Moushimi Amaya in the Microbiology and Immunology at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The research will work with emerging viruses for discovering and development of vaccines and thereapies against these viruses.

Responsibilities:Responsibilities
- Maintains compliance with established laboratory safety and other procedures.
- Ensures the proper disposal of infectious and hazardous materials.
- Applies quality control measures as outlined/required by the protocol. Provides basic data analysis.
- Performs laboratory research projects, including collection and organization of data, and maintaining databases. Makes detailed observations on experiments.
- Assists in the preparation of reports, publications, and presentations.
- Follows instructions and standard operating procedures to perform expected tasks. May provide basic instruction to other lab staff.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree.
- Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques.
- Ability to follow general instructions.
- Good communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check.
Physical Capabilities
- Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
- Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in a laboratory setting.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $43,650-$60,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Final salary will be determined based on market analysis, experience, and education.
