Position summary:
The Research Assistant will be responsible for independently conducting tests, analyzing results, and delivering clear, data-driven reports to support customer projects. This role requires strong collaboration with internal teams and global labs, ensuring precise execution and attention to detail in testing procedures.
Key responsibilities include maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting equipment, managing vendor relationships, and ensuring proper qualification testing and training for team members. The position also requires adherence to safety protocols, including chemical handling and workspace organization using the 5S methodology. Regular travel up to twice a year may be required.
The Research Assistant will be responsible for safely conduct a wide variety of testing on glass laminate samples and multiple kinds of polymer interlayers.
Responsibilities:
Define and conduct appropriate tests independently, analyze results, and effectively communicate findings to customers through detailed analytical reports.
Effectively collaborate with internal teams and labs across various regions and cultures globally.
Ensure precision and attention to detail, identifying irregular results and drawing conclusions from thorough sample investigations.
Provide leadership and analytical support to the Technical and Research departments for new product development related to customer applications and processes.
Operate, maintain, troubleshoot equipment, and communicate with vendors to establish contracts.
Conduct and analyze qualification testing, create and maintain operating procedures, and train others on equipment use.
Participate in all safety and ethics training, adhering to safe work practices, including chemical handling, and maintaining a clean, organized workspace using the 5S methodology.
Be willing to travel up to twice a year domestically.
Minimum Qualifications:
2 year degree or related certification
Minimum of 5 years of laboratory experience.
Knowledge and practical experience working with lab instruments such as adhesion testers, optical analyzers, Karl Fischer titration, gas and ion chromatography, surface pattern, caliper measurement systems and other types of technical instruments
Experience with instrument and equipment upgrades, installation and maintenance
Polymer testing experience in petrochemical or manufacturing environment
Interlayer product knowledge and experience in making glass lamina es is preferred
Ability to independently multi-task, organize and prioritize workload.
ISO certification knowledge such as auditing, control charting, QMS and OD documentation control, etc.
Ability to lift 50 pounds
Outstanding verbal and written communication, presentation, interpersonal, creative thinking, consulting, and analytical skills.
Ability to prioritize work to manage multiple projects to meet deadlines.
Excellent problem-solving/decision-making skills.
Ability to multi-task
Candidates must have a valid driver's license.
