Job Description Summary:
Maintain mouse colonies and perform cell culture related to studies on
developmental biology. Perform all animal experiments following standard
laboratory procedure as approved by the KUMC IACUC and LAR. The
researcher will also take part in other laboratory work as instructed by
supervisor.
Job Description:
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Maintain mouse colonies and perform cell cultures.
- Set up normal and timed breeding, planning sequential breeding
depending on mouse genetics, knock out target genes in experimental
mice, and perform genotyping to determine targeted gene knockout.
- Assist with rat and mouse research-related tasks including recording
time of birth, monitoring age, and other developmental signs.
Administration of necessary drugs and hormones to mice for gene
induction or gene knockout, modulation of developmental functions.
- Record data from animal experiments, compile, analyze data for
documentation and draw tentative conclusions.
- Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree in biological sciences
Work Experience:
- 1 year of related work experience.
- Previous experience with rat and mouse colony management, mouse
genetics, cell culture, animal ordering, or rodent experiment
related materials are required.
Preferred Qualifications
Work Experience:
- 2 years of related work experience.
- Previous experience with rat or mouse dissection, macroscopic and
microscopic tissue isolation, and cell isolation from animal
tissues.
Skills: Strong work ethic, desire to learn

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation
program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of
factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but
not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications
relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the
University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the
starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range,
taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
