Research Associate, Global Energy Markets - Aurora Energy Research
Austin, TX TX 78721
About the Job
Description
Aurora is seeking an Associate to join our subscription energy analytics and client-facing services, based in our Austin, TX office. You will be a part of Aurora’s Global Energy Markets research team — producing our ongoing research and publications, developing new analysis, identifying client needs, and continuously enhancing the service we provide.
We are looking for an Associate who will be a senior member of the team, leading projects in North America, speaking to clients, and representing the company externally. The scope of this role will be on Global Energy Markets (gas, oil, and coal), with a focus on North America, particularly in the US, in addition to broader analysis of global markets. The role involves keeping abreast of, and providing insightful client reports on, key developments across North American commodities markets, including consideration of how energy commodities will be affected by decarbonization policies and the emergence of low-carbon technologies.
The Global Energy Markets team produces Aurora’s central outlook and scenarios for the development of gas, oil, and coal markets, which underpin Aurora’s analysis of power markets. Although the role is based in our Subscription Analytics team, the successful applicants would also play a role in supporting commodities-focused projects undertaken in our Advisory team — which in the past has included transactions and strategic advisory.
Aurora provides a dynamic, intellectually stimulating, and demanding yet supportive environment. Working closely with and reporting into our team in Oxford, UK, you will enjoy autonomy, the opportunity to substantially influence major decisions in the energy sector, and the chance to grow into an industry expert engaging with leading stakeholders in the North American market.
This position suits experienced analysts or consultants from top-tier strategic or economic consultancies, energy companies, financial services companies, or knowledge-driven firms or institutions. Prior experience in natural gas, energy markets, and macroeconomics is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Aurora’s research in North American (US, Canada, Mexico) energy commodities markets and work closely with Aurora’s modelling and power teams to develop new market forecasts and novel analysis.
- Research key short- and long-term market trends and conduct analysis of policy developments in the gas, coal, and oil markets, with a focus on North America.
- Develop timely and rigorous quantitative analyses to enhance clients’ decision making, e.g., in supporting financial transactions for energy assets.
- Communicate findings to clients through meetings, calls, workshops, and conferences.
- Contribute to Aurora’s product development, by identifying new opportunities for intellectually interesting and commercially relevant areas of analysis, helping to expand our capabilities, subscription base, and impact.
