The Division of Cardiovascular Medicine in the Department of Medicine at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania seeks candidates for several Research Associate positions in the Academic Support Staff. This appointment will be initially for one (1) year and continuation during that time period and renewal are based on satisfactory performance and availability of funding (limited to three (3) years). Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree.
Responsibilities may include performing scientific experiments using the mouse as a model of development, pathology and injury. The Research Associate (RA) will maintain a mouse colony of transgenic animals, generate new alleles using CRISPR and murine stem cell targeting, perform molecular biology experiments to study various aspects of vascular biology including mechanisms of vascular malformations, heart disease, lymphatic and blood vessel development, and COVID-19-related vascular pathologies. The Research Associate will assist in bench training of graduate students and technicians and make contributions to the lab by way of introducing new techniques. The Research Associate will be expected to read and write manuscripts, apply for external funding, and present their work at internal weekly lab meetings and external conferences.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to help drive research projects. The Research Associate will be expected to submit proposals and secure independent funding. They will work with technicians and have the opportunity to mentor graduate students and collaborate with investigators within the Perelman School of Medicine and outside institutions.
This position will help candidates broaden their bench-top skills, mentorship experience, experience managing teams, and grant-writing and manuscript-writing skills. Selected candidates will work in the laboratory of Zoltan Arany, MD, PhD.
