The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine is the third largest clinical department within the School of Medicine with 330 full-time faculty members, 460 courtesy faculty members, and over 350 staff. Department faculty provide clinical services in 5 hospitals, 14 primary care locations, and several outpatient sites in addition to telepsychiatry consultations to more than 150 clinics in Washington and beyond. As the only academic psychiatry department serving the five state WWAMI region (Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, Idaho), the Department's highly competitive residency training program is largely responsible for developing the mental health workforce in the Pacific Northwest. The Department's robust research portfolio totals $67 million in grants and contracts per year for projects ranging from clinical neurosciences to treatment development to health policy and population health. The Department is recognized as an international leader in developing, testing, and implementing Collaborative Care, an integrated care model increasingly seen as a solution for population-based mental health care. Other areas of excellence include Addictions, Autism, High Risk Youth, Neurosciences, and Trauma, and the Department is developing innovative new programs in Technology and Mental Health, Global Mental Health, Maternal and Child Mental Health, and Targeted Intervention Development. Psychiatry is the third largest department in the School of Medicine and the largest non-divisioned department. The overall annual operations funding from all sources is over $130 million.
**The Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences within the UW School of Medicine currently has an outstanding opportunity for a Research Coordinator.**
Located within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences on the Harborview campus, the SPIRIT Lab (Supporting Psychosis Innovation through Research, Implementation, & Training) is a diverse group of researchers, trainers, and implementation support specialists committed to improving the lives, wellbeing, and supportive care of individuals who are at risk of or experience serious mental illness. We pride ourselves on leading the field in research and training in evidence-based, recovery-oriented practices, while also providing an environment conducive to ongoing professional development, learning, and fun.
The SPIRIT Lab is the only lab within UW dedicated solely to research, training, and implementation related to psychosis and SMI. We interface and work collaboratively with policy makers, leaders, and other key stakeholders at the national, state, and local levels, focused on improving care for individuals and families experiencing psychosis and SMI. The person in this position will be highly visible in these settings and will often be seen as the face of both SPIRIT and the UW Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.
This position involves implementation support, program development, research, and supervision related to the West Coast Mental Health Technical Assistance Center (MHTAC), part of the National Mental Health Dissemination and Implementation Science (MHDIS) Center. This 5-year project is funded by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The Research Coordinator will work under the general direction of the Principal Investigator/ Director and the Evaluation lead of the West Coast MHTAC. This position will be instrumental in the evaluation of center activities, including data management, analyses and reporting. This position will be integral to ensuring implementation projects will be successful from initial implementation to dissemination to the community.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Data Evaluation and Management (35%)
+ Participate in all aspects of evaluation projects, including developing methodology, data collection, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
+ Collect and manage data for evaluation and reporting to stakeholders, including funder (SAMHSA).
+ Identify and define research problems.
+ Lead collection and management of data for MHDIS intensive technical assistance activities.
+ Conduct preliminary analyses of data for reporting and dissemination of findings.Research Design and Methodology (35%)
+ Design research approaches and hypotheses, including the methodologies to be used.
+ Plan specific phases of research projects, including study protocols and timelines.Data Analysis, Reporting, and Interpretation (25%)
+ Analyze study data, draw inferences, report findings, and analyze study progress.
+ Identify problems, propose solutions, and implement solutions in consultation with PI.
+ Conduct analysis of research outcomes and provide interpretation of study results.
+ Lead writing of assigned sections of grants and quarterly reports.Ethics and Compliance (5%)
+ Oversee the IRB application process, including submitting applications, modifications, and renewals.
+ Ensure compliance with ethical standards in research, particularly regarding human subject recruitment and participation.Lead Responsibilities
+ Leads the collection and management of data for MHDIS intensive technical assistance activities. conducts preliminary analyses of data for reporting and dissemination of findings.
+ Leads writing assigned section of grants and quarterly reports.
+ Leads the IRB application process including modifications and renewals. **MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**
+ Master's degree in public health, psychology or other social science.
+ Minimum 2 years' experience as a research study coordinator, data manager, or similar role Experience with qualitative, quantitative, and mixed-methods research methodologies. **ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
+ Experience preparing IRB protocols, modifications, and communicating with human subjects review boards.
+ Skills in balancing multiple demands simultaneously under time constraints.
+ Ability to self-motivate and work independently with limited supervision and as part of a team. Excellent writing and communication skills, particularly in the context of collaborating with and coordinating partners and trainees from multiple organizations.
+ Excellent organizational skills including independently managing multiple tasks while ensuring.
+ Attention to detail, accuracy, and quality. **DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
+ Experience with grant proposals and management.
