Position Description
Title: R&D Electrical Engineer
Department: Research and Development
Immediate Supervisor: R&D Manager
Status: Exempt
Position Purpose: responsible for supporting the development, transition, and integration of new products and new process platforms from R&D into the production manufacturing process with a focus on electronics. The R&D Electrical Engineer will be supporting the operation of the pilot laboratories, assisting in the design and fabrication of tape application test equipment, and the specification and maintenance of a wide variety of R&D laboratory equipment.
Principle Accountabilities
- Comply with best laboratory practices, including safety and environmental regulations
- Actively support all safety programs and initiatives
- Provide day to day electrical support for all R&D equipment
- Hands on installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of pilot process equipment, including HMI, PLC, and VFD programming
- Author clear, concise interpretive reports, memos, one-line drawings, and work instructions
- Create, modify, and optimize designs with 2D and 3D CAD and simulation software.
- Assess new technology and equipment purchases, make recommendations, and execute plans
- Conduct safety audits and Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)
- Utilize project management skills to define, plan, schedule, and control the tasks that must be completed to reach project goals
- Participate on various R&D and multi-disciplinary teams, cross training, and supporting all R&D process technology
- Provide engineering support in the design of new application test methods / devices.
- Participate on 5S Teams
- Ability to work with a union and facilitate teamwork, open communication, and compliance to the current collective bargaining agreement
Essential Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering degree
- Innovative, organized self-starter with good problem-solving skills
- Collaborative interpersonal style with experience in leading project teams
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience with PLC and HMI troubleshooting and programming, preferred
- Two or more years of experience in paper-making, coating or converting industries, preferred
- Proven project management leader, preferred
