Job Overview:
The incumbent fulfills the DOE requirement to support the day-to-day operations of the NETL at various locations. The R&D Manager would work alongside other contractors and government employees at DOE laboratories in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; Morgantown, West Virginia; and Albany, Oregon; or from home offices. This requirement encompasses operational and maintenance support necessary to maintain the infrastructure of the facilities.
R&D Manager will be responsible for research, planning, and implementing new programs and protocols. Your active participation will be required from the initial planning phase to implementation or production.
THIS POSITION IS CONTINGENT UPON CONTRACT AWARD.
Responsibilities:Essential Duties & Job Functions:
- Lead key projects with R&D to support business goals.
- Develop research programs incorporating current developments to improve existing products and study the potential of new products.
- Understand customer expectations on to-be manufactured products.
- Determine and execute improved technologies used by suppliers, competitors, and customers.
- Support Director to hire and develop R&D personnel.
- Establish project goals and priorities by collaborating with Marketing and Operations.
- Transfer new technologies, products, and manufacturing processes into and out of the company.
- Research, design and evaluate materials, assemblies, processes, and equipment.
- Suggest training tools to enhance employee performance and skill development.
- Monitor team metrics and objectives ensuring meeting of goals.
- Document all phases of research and development.
- Manage customer relationships and perform RFP reviews, customer visits, and product testing.
- Establish and maintain testing procedures for assessing raw materials, in-process and finished products.
- Oversee complex research projects, analyze results and provide recommendations based on findings.
- Assess the scope of research projects and ensure they are on time and within budget.
- Be present at industry conferences on research topics of interest.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Mandatory:
- Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, engineering, or business field.
- More than fifteen (15) years of related work experience in the management of research, development, demonstration, or commercial programs, projects, and facilities.
- More than seven (7) years of consecutive experience in managing diverse and integrated work forces (e.g., professionals, engineers, scientists, technicians, craftsmen, etc.).
- Possess a valid driver’s license with suitable driving record.
- Ability to acquire and maintain government identification/common access card.
- Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional, courteous manner in diversified situations.
- Valid state Driver’s License with acceptable driving record pertinent to the position.
- Ability to successfully pass any background checks and/or drug testing required on the contract.
- U.S. Citizenship.
