As part of the R&D Product Development Team, this position is responsible for leading a small group of scientists in developing new and innovative products and manufacturing processes to meet customers’ needs, modify existing products and processes to improve overall quality and or costs, and supporting customers on projects, trials and startups for a specific category. In addition to leading others through the development process this partner may complete some product development projects of their own.
This position will be located at our home office in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
What you’ll do:
- Leads teams in the development of new products and processes which are cross functional and of high impact to Schreiber Foods. Provides project guidance and support through prioritization, effective and efficient resource utilization, and problem solving.
- Effectively handles pressures that may come from customers, suppliers, partners and management; takes firm stands on his/her technical expertise when necessary.
- Has a comprehensive understanding of department SOPs. Responsible to work with team members to continually update and improve SOP based on feedback from internal and external sources.
- Conveys complex technical concepts to non-technical partners at all levels of the organization, writes detailed technical reports, develops position papers on issues of high impact, and effectively plans and conducts presentations to inform and influence decisions of others.
- Develops products, processes, and technology that are robust and uses sound experimental design, maintaining a strong application to the scientific method and holds team accountable to the same.
- Establishes and maintains a network of key contacts, internally and externally to effectively complete projects, and maintains a good understanding of the food industry and competitors.
- Maintains a good understanding of regulatory standards and changes and Schreiber’s labeling practices. Has a broadened area of product expertise, with a core area of focus, and is knowledgeable in Schreiber systems (Optiva, Advanced Planner, other). Holds partners accountable for following regulatory requirements and use of proper software.
- Demonstrates good understanding of Schreiber philosophies, processes and systems and uses this knowledge to meet customer requirements.
- Responsible for guiding team through the yearly goal and IDP processes. Actively participates in partner calibration. Shares feedback with leadership to assist with personalizing training and growth for team members.
- Assist other R&D leaders with creating and maintaining the departmental strategy.
Together with the leadership team, ensures compliance with Food Safety and Food Quality Plans, in addition to customer requirements. Interprets and communicates customer requirements to plant production and/or support groups. Establishes and Audits PCPs, CCPs and Standard Operating Procedures to define and monitor processes, to ensure customer requirements are met. Reviews incidents during which the procedures are not met, and determines appropriate corrective action for partners failing to follow standard procedures.
What you need to succeed:
- Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Dairy Science, Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Engineering or related field
- 5+ years experience in dairy and cultured products (formulated dairy products; cream cheese; cheese; yogurts- drinkable, stirred, set, dairy based aseptic beverages, etc.)
- History of successful new product development from concept to implementation and commercial sale
- Demonstrated ability to lead project teams
- Ability to set your own pace and work without the supervision of others
- Ability to manage remote resources
- Proven leadership, excellent written and oral communication skills
- Work environment will include office setting and production plants. Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time. Must be able to climb stairs, ladders, and work in a noisy environment when visiting the factory.
- Strong communication skills by phone and email are required in order to manage remote resources.
- Valid driver's license, auto insurance (at least state minimum- more might be required), acceptable driving record per Schreiber Foods discretion, and vehicle that will ensure applicant can meet the travel necessities of the position are required.
- Ability to travel up to 15% to various Schreiber, Customer and Supplier sites.
