Who We Are:
Our team is helping ensure the safety of nuclear power and the nuclear fuel cycle at a time when the country and world are considering increasing nuclear power’s role in meeting energy needs while helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Objectives of this Role:
- For the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and other clients, perform technical evaluations for ensuring the safety of nuclear facilities, nuclear materials processing and management, and radioactive waste disposal.
- Conduct independent calculations and modeling, as necessary, to support nuclear safety technical evaluations.
- Contribute to preparation of proposals and support other business development activities applicable to your technical expertise.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Provide nuclear-related expertise for technical and regulatory assessments of the safety of nuclear fuel cycle facilities and related activities, including conversion, enrichment, fabrication, storage, transportation, reprocessing, and disposal.
- Evaluate regulations and regulatory guidance documents for their applicability to a variety of advanced and accident-tolerant nuclear fuels.
- Supplement reviews with independent analyses (e.g., calculations/modeling).
- Contribute to written reports.
- Support business development efforts.
Requirements:
- Requires a Masters or a PhD in Nuclear Engineering or other related Engineering degree with a nuclear emphasis.
- 0 years with a PhD with a directly related dissertation.
- 1+ years with an MS with experience in nuclear fuels and materials. Must pass a conflict of interest evaluation.
- Experience in the following is desirable: The safety of nuclear fuel cycle facilities; nuclear codes (e.g., inventory physics, shielding, and criticality); radioactive waste; nuclear power plant operation and safety.
- Good writing and communication skills. Independent thinker who can work alone or with teams under varying levels of supervision and direction.
- Due to the nature of the contract, candidates must have US Citizenship or have held US Permanent Residency (non-U.S. citizen national, lawful permanent resident, asylee, or refugee) for at least 5 years.
Special Requirements:
All applicants must pass a conflict of interest evaluation and be qualified for an NRC clearance.
